Mélange is a French word meaning
a 'mixture' or 'medley'
She is BunnySox Lair's very 1st Coatl
and our 1st Lightning dragon,
with the lovely cyan colour eyes
I know she is a dragon, but
she looks like a buttery yellow pot

Meet the Contestants
"What're we makin', Chef?" hummed Pea in her always upbeat voice.
Pea loved to help Mélange in the kitchen, any kitchen,
though she'd never helped in a competition before.
Pea felt so proud.
"We're going to make a CorVoleFragIn,
the dish made famous by Julia Coatl, the best chef in Sornieth!!"
Melange announced with a triumphant blast of sound.
Pea shrugged.
"Whatever that is," she winked at Phoebs.
"In your family, I think they called it InnyOuttyInnyOutty,
if I remember correctly,"
Mélange smiled at her friend fondly.
"Oh! Okay, I know what that is!!"
Pea punched the air with her finely-manicured claws as she spun around in a circle.
"I don't know what that is," Phoebs murmured under her breath.
"Why, of course you do, it's famous!" Melange cried.
"It's a lovely, fresh Coral Dweller,
stuffed with a Glass Vole,
stuffed with a Leaf Insect,
stuffed with Fragrant Orchid seeds,
wrapped in banana leaves,
and slow roasted in the ground for a whole day!!"
"But...I can't help you make that!!"
Phoebe wailed so loud that several neighboring work stations couldn't pretend not to hear her.
"I'm a vegetarian!!!"

Mélange was excited about the Cooking Challenge;
she'd been wanting to have enough confidence to enter, for ages!!
And now she had a team of helpers so she wouldn't have to do everything herself, for once!!
She was so happy!!

When she saw the required ingredients, her head exploded with ideas!!
"No, no," she said to herself almost immediately,
"that's too complicated; you won't have that much time."
"Uh, no," she self-corrected on her second idea.
"You know Phoebs is no good with knives;
tearing, or biting maybe, but
NO KNIVES."
She sighed.
Maybe a team was trickier than she realized.
Phoebs couldn't use a knife safely and Pea would do anything Mélange asked, but...she did have a tendency to...well...unexpected clumsiness, and that could be devastating at the wrong time...
"Too much thinking, more cooking!!"
Melange clapped her claws together, nodded her head and began.
"No, no," she said to herself almost immediately,

She'd decided to pre-roast the orchid seeds before stuffing the leaf insect, then roasted the leaf insect before inserting it into the vole, and roasted the vole before...well, you get the idea.

"I just was, um, doing a taste test?"
Phoebe laughed, and licked the sticky stuff off her fingers.
"Alright, ladies," Melange announced to her besties, Pea and Phoebs. "I've made my decision.
"Phoebs, there's meat again, so we'll let you focus on place setting and ambience.
"Pea, there's chopping and stirring, and you were a great prep chef last round, so that'll be yours."
Pea looked pleased.
"And here's what we'll be using...

"And here's what we'll be using...
We'll start with a Crunchy Grub appetizer, which will be a stone ground mealworm cracker, infused with macadamia essence and mint. We'll top the cracker with a swirl of Infested Cotton Candy, and finish by placing a full Nymph and a Reverse Silkworm Moth on top.
Our main course will be Dodo Wing Fondue. We'll take the meat from the Dodo Wing, chop it very fine with onions and garlic, then add tiny diced sweet potato, carrots, and more onions, all laced with a sherry-infused havarti cream base, put that in a fondue pot and suspend the swirl of Meaty Cotton Candy over the fondue pot with lovely bamboo skewers. As the fondue heats, the steam will rise, causing the cotton candy to gently melt and drip it's sugary goodness into the fondue pot, adding a succulent layer of flavour.
And last, our dessert will be a decadent gelato of Coneflower Cotton Candy. We'll deconstruct the CCC and mix it into our basic cream-sugar-vanilla-eggs gelato custard, we'll let that freeze, then we'll scoop into gorgeous champagne flutes, 3 scoops per flute, and top with a nitrogen-freeze dollop of the Coneflower with just a whisper of cotton candy circling its petals.
"Sounds delish!" cried Pea, and started setting out all the tools she'd need to get started.
