Biography

aglæca | old english | a word of disputed meaning used to describe grendel's mother in beowulf

- mother the daughter of a plague warlord (who I own!)
- gone to the most tenaciously held of the shrieking wilds shield Isles, fought over by deities and dragons alike
- one of those places where the flight a dragon is born to is not set in stone, depending on which deity has control
- so despite being a fireborn, she's never stepped foot in the waste

- trained from a young age to be a battle mage
- a theme in her family (and my lore in general) is divine permission
- meaning as long as you have the thumbs up of your local deity, you can do whatever you want
- meaning while necromancy* is Highly Illegal in every flight . . . the flamecaller will overlook it in the dominance wars as long as it bolsters her interests
- of course there's a ton of caveats to that, actual creation of life ie from scratch is still illegal as it's too presumptuous

* = necromancy isn't the right word. like dragons are either alive or dead no in between. it's more extreme healing of your own allies should they receive technically fatal injuries and the manipulation of the enemy's bodies and magic for your side's own benefit

the isles went long hours without a god's eye upon them - no hand to snatch away the soul at once. the labyrinthine isles were the same as over the godless outer sea, any battlefield would glow with the light of the fallen until a deity wandered by

- amber bedecked as that was a common material in the labyrinth, fire-drops of shimmering orange beading every trim
- clothes are woven spidersilk, fireproof
- skull that marks status as a necromancer

to serve the deities was the highest accord afforded to any dragon. her mother told her loudly and often. there would be no soft service for her either, strumming a harp in an annex palace to honor the flamecaller. what use did anyone have for music, when their mother thirsted for blood?

so she was shuffled off to war training as soon as she could hold a sword.

with the gladekeeper dead and lost, nature magic was debased as low as the mongrel magics of ice or lightning- one did not need to be born to the flight to wield it.

she was a green hand, a wielder of nature magic

The dominance wars were as they always have been, the eternal push and shove and take but never keep of slivers of territory. She fought on the same isle for a decade, one of the northernmost and hardest to resupply

she had twenty three children in the flamecaller's name. in twos and threes, one litter a year. life was a scant thing, the gladekeeper ash in the sea and the flamecaller's eye never upon them. Many never drew breath, unable to catch enough ambient Magic in the air, and the necromancers could not catch it for them, as to create life as the deities could was a liberty they were not allowed to take.

And the few that did live lived as she did, ushered away into training, into some foreign army as only a yearling

- lives in the folly, ie the virulent logging camps in the easternmost reach of the main territory (the shadow and light enclaves not being connected by land)
- acts as a holyhealer and shadehunter, as it is easily the least accessible territory and most fraught with danger

- aglaeca has no idea that Ezigra isn't her grandma
- her mom is a guardian, and xolter is her father, so she just kinda assumes since they're been together forever
- its not like aglaeca calls them by their relation to her so nobody's ever corrected her
