i. once upon a time, a storyteller… ➔ before birds learned to sing through the cage
• “Stop writing lies under the guise of being scribe! It doesn’t give you the right to misconstrue people’s thoughts. Don’t you think people disliked me enough already? Why write that my flowers might’ve been the origin of the curse. Everything you wrote down only ever created mistrust and resentment, haven’t you had enough of lying?!” He turned to look at her, he didn’t need to use his gift to see she was telling the truth, she believed he was in the wrong. “I only wrote what you believe is true. Your truth recognized that you didn’t know if your flowers caused the curse.” She left with a sigh, “Even then, it’s not your story to tell.”
• “You must realize this is why no one talks to you, right? The truths you hear are only truths to their owners’ mind, gods and common folks alike are biased in their views of themselves. And no one likes being depicted as a secondary villain in someone else’s narrative.” He debated his writing with his friend once again. He never took offense from those words, he could hear that his senior wanted to help him. He could hear the truth of his heart. “So I should lie, then?” • He could admit to all his faults. He knew himself nearly as much as he knew others. Despite his gift, he couldn’t hear his own truth at all, it was a muted whisper from which no clear words could be deciphered, but that didn’t mean he was a stranger to his shortcomings. After all, he was featured front and center of people’s truths when he talked to them, and their truths were often even louder than their voice. He could hear all his faults, yet somehow he found it hard to become who they wanted him to be. ➔ after birds learned the price of their voice
• “If the universe or whoever hears me, I am not asking for anything at all. I do not seek help or guidance, my heart will figure out what path I shall take. However, I’ll allow the universe to bear witness, I’m honest in my endeavors… I don’t want to hurt anyone else, I know this to be true, I don’t need any voice telling me so. Yet I can’t give up my writings, that I know to be true too… perhaps I shall lie for once.” He didn’t know where to start, their hearts were heard clearly, but how could a single lie satisfy all of their wishes? He tried and tried, but truths were hard to rewrite.
• “Lie, not from a place of deception, but rather understanding. It’s compassion to those who ask for it. Listen closely and you’re bound to hear, most truths would allow a lie or two. Focus. Can you hear mine? Tell me what I want to hear.” He looked at his friend and blocked out surrounding sounds. As he concentrated on the truth, it got faster, words were barely understandable. It grew faster and faster, but then, a split second before it stopped… he heard it. • “Hey! Why did you run off, did my truth reveal unspeakable horrors to you or did staring so long at my face blind you with envy? Sorry, bad joke, bad timing, I know… but I’m serious I want to be sure.” His gaze refused to look at his friend, it settled on the horizon instead. “Don’t leave, they want you to stay… that’s what you wanted to hear. And something you didn’t wish to hear but… I consider you a friend, even if you don’t see me as one. You taught me I can only talk for myself, so I may not know their truths but… I’m not lying when I say that I’d like to see you stay.” |
