Theus ⯎⯎ The Hidden
Theus walks down the floating walkway just outside the Divided Spire, trying to ignore the magic flickering in the corner of his vision. He knows it's there for a reason, but even after all these years, it still bothers him a bit. It reminds him of the little flickering lights that seem to dance around his scales, often catching one of his many eyes by surprise. He still struggles with those eyes, honestly. He doesn't even know why he touched that scroll in the first place.
He pauses next to one of the hovering vales, tilting his head. He can see a herd of goats walking about, hopping on some of the climbing stones to wear down their hooves. One of the Kitsune that came over from Gleanreal is watching them like a hawk, her tails flicking occasionally as one of the goats eyes her coat. It almost looks like it's trying to decide whether the fur tastes like carrot cake, in his opinion. The look in her eyes tells him more than enough about what would happen if the goat decides to risk finding out.
"Need any help?"
That large shaggy head turns to look at him, tilting slightly as the goat balks at his appearance. The little guys may know he's safe to be around, but they were used to Kitsune like Ayumi, not your average Imperial. Some of them still need to warm up to him a bit. He honestly can't blame them for moving to put the Kitsune between them. He's about to ask again when the Kit lets out a hearty squeak of a laugh, shaking her head a bit.
"Oh no, my partner will be back in a few minutes. Though I saw one of those new ghosts hover by recently. Maybe Azriel needs more help than me!"
Sure enough, Theus spots her partner, Haru, trudging on over with one of the stray goats that had managed to climb a little too far. It doesn't take him long to understand why the little one ran, though. Especially when he sees one of those stray specters tailing behind the pair, still trying to zip about through anything solid enough to be felt underfoot. He can't help but sigh a bit at that, rummaging in his bag to pull on some gloves. He wishes he didn't need gear like this just to handle these little tricksters, but he knows better than to risk it with this lot. The Spire was still riled up from everyone vanishing during the 2023 Winter Games, as well as the increase in paranormal activity. They didn't need a scare from the remnants of the potion zipping down the halls.
"I'll bring this one to Azriel then. Oh, and Rhian will be dropping by to renew the masking wards on the Goat Vale this afternoon. She had to finish cleaning up after a student catastrophe earlier, so she might be a little late. Paperwork and all."
He can't help but chuckle at the couple as their muzzles wrinkle at the thought of paperwork. They were used to verbal agreements and working with the wilds of Gleanreal, not sitting about in a temple filing scrolls away to make sure Forest Spirit A's grove doesn't encroach on Forest Spirit B's flower patch. He knows they felt extremely lucky to find themselves as goat keepers still, with the only change to their job being the location of their little herd.
"You really are a gift from the Eleven."
Theus pauses at that, tilting his head. He knows for a fact most drakes would say the opposite if they knew what he was. A descendant of Naomi, a line of drakes who are well known for their ability to bend reality itself to their will, manifested in his powers as an Ophanim. His skill with animals surpassing his own social skills, a trait earned by his ancestry to the Beast herself, brought forth in one of the few light ways it could be under Ariel's tutelage. His true mentor, Razael, helping him learn how to hide the most controversial aspect of his own Sagehood from any Sages who happen upon the Spire themselves. To be called a gift is truly a rare thing, in the end, and something Theus truly appreciates. It was the name he took for himself when he arrived at the Spire, after all. A Naomi who didn't want to fight his kin? Truly a blessing in disguise to the Grand Scholars.
He shakes his head, winking one of his many eyes at the Nogitsune couple as he ropes in the stray ghost. The little guy protests, of course, but he knows better than to try anything else with the little trickster. If this one gets out, his little hidden hovering haven may very well be discovered by others, and he didn't want to get any of these precious creatures hurt because of his own nature. He'd hide them, just as he hid himself from those who'd wish him ill: by hiding in plain sight.
"Maybe I am. Maybe I'm not. Just happy to help where I can."
And with that, he's off, ready to help Azriel round up his missing ghosts. He does have a Hovering Haven to run, after all, and it wouldn't do if one of the lesson-based creatures escaped before Azriel could train them to be handled by his own students. Besides, there are other enclosures to check. The reptiles had been moved from Khamael's care, and Razael's aviary had only just been relocated in one of the new vales. He had a lot to do, and so little wiggle room for anything else.
He just hoped his new half brothers didn't cause him too much trouble. He didn't need any more worries on his mind, especially when the letters from his father had stopped coming in. And the odd colors on the hides of the two... it worried him. Truly, it did. But he couldn't afford to be dragged into his family's drama.
He had a home, a found family, and a life. He didn't need his own blood messing that up now.
