Esras was born in the Sunless Hollow while his parents, a pair of travelers, visited for the Brightshine Jubilee. Yet while they and his sister were drawn to the open road, he couldn't say the same; he liked the dark and quiet, the soft glow of the bioluminescent plants, the shelter offered by a stalactite covered "sky". Even when he was mere days old, he knew where his home lay.

And so he bid farewell to his birth family, and instead was raised by the local silversmith. Yet from an early age it was clear that Esras was not interested nor cut out for smith life; no, instead he found himself drawn away from working metal to something far more delicate. For he had a voice that could charm a crowd and nimble fingers that could pluck out a tune that could send the heart soaring or send it crashing down.

And so Esras became known as a bard, his enchanting melodies ringing out through the caverns that he had known all of his life. And, one day, one of those melodies drew someone to him. One of the scouts, one who had arrived from outside and yet had never left, one who couldn't stop staring at him as he plays his songs. The two quickly became friends, then more than friends. For Esras had found where his heart belonged.
