daughter of the plaguebringer | possessive, inquisitive, unsatisfied
Names are powerful things. She was always called Lie by her adopted mother; she was a witch more cryptic than Lie herself, a surveyor of lands untouched and more aligned with the wilds than with dragonkind. It was never a secret that she had found Lie as a whelp, starved and half-dying, and took her in out of guilt. She raised her far from poisonous civilization; Lie questioned her upbringing, but her mother taught her that mankind was the source of evil, particularly their devotion to the gods. The deities were the villains of Lie's childhood stories. They ruined the earth for their children and then demanded more fealty, consuming the lives of their creations and ruling over them with the knowledge they were temporary. They thus traveled in secrecy, guarded by the lines Lie's mother would draw in the earth with her staff when they stopped to rest. She was ever-convinced there was a second coming: another war of the gods that would tear Sornieth asunder, and only those who had the means to challenge the gods would survive their bloodshed. For a long while she would not even share it with Lie herself. It was only when disease and paranoia began to overtake her body that she bestowed upon Lie the staff she had carried all her life: the Fester-Claw. It was touched by magic far beyond what even the deities could manage. With it, one could pull themselves from detection and beyond the senses of mortals and gods alike. With it, she could inherit the earth — and there were more. They were called Shade-touched and the gods were gathering them greedily to keep their people from ever achieving divine power.
After separating from her mother, Lie clung to the Fester-Claw religiously, suspicious of other dragons and searching for these other artifacts. Her quest has brought her into the path of the Lightweaver's herald, wielder of one of the artifacts and consumed in his quest to gather them for his patron. Each of them is ignorant to how the Shade has infected their own veins and only sees how it has affected the other: for Lie, Cavador is an arrogant puppet, but the lies he speaks of some shared heritage between them has admittedly caused her to question herself...
