The tale differs between flights. To the dragons of the Tangled Wood, a scorned Light hatchling with darkened scelera had its eyes torn out by its horrified parents, before being drowned in the waters at the edge of the Driftwood Drag. The Shadow Mother's residual essence revitalized its unbeating heart and filled new eyes into its lonely skull, but it could not return a mortal's love for life. Now it writhes beneath the river's surface every summer solstice-- stirred by the stench of light and driven by a vengeful, indiscriminate hunger.



In the illuminated safety of the Sunbeam Ruins, dragons share the chilling legend of a child born by the Shadowbinder's influence and the black, cold depths of the absent Tidelord's currents. A rotted egg that had sunken to the ocean's bed was rejuvenated long past its time by the desolate darkness of both gods' negligence. From the egg hatched a dragonling's husk with the soul of a monster and a craving for sun-blessed flesh.



No matter the region or the teller, Lothlorien's malevolent fate is the same: to lure naughty wandering hatchlings to an unpleasant watery end. Tangled Wood younglings know to shy away from the river banks every Brightshine Jubilee, as Sunbeam children are warned to steer clear of any body of water when the Trickmurk Circus comes to play.
