Apis the Skydancer
Hive Worker

"To Know the Unknown" - Poke'mon 3

Personality: Apis is a very thoughtful, quiet sort of dragon. They find the insatiable curiosity of their dear Ambrosia amusing, but don't share it much. Apis is content with their place in the world, and the family they have in the hive and Am. They are a very "stop and smell the flowers" sort of soul, content to revel in the simple joys of being alive. In spite of this, they can switch modes very swiftly, becoming extremely aggressive if they believe their family is under threat.

History: There exist a species of bees in Arcane territory that have developed a very unusual survival mechanism. When they find abandoned dragon eggs, they will bring the eggs back to their hive, and seal them in a brood cell much the same as they do their own eggs. Bathed in royal jelly, the developing dragons undergo changes to their morphology that make them half-dragon, half bee. When the young dragons hatch, they are cared for by nurse bees in the hive, and grow up extremely loyal to the family that raised them. Fire and nature dragons are particularly prized by hives, as fire dragons can help keep hives warm and dehydrate honey, while nature dragons can bloom flowers out of season. Though it is a common misconception that these dragons are mindless drones, this is in fact not the case, as Apis and the arcane researcher Ambrosia recently proved.

Apis is one such dragon, their egg found orphaned by a fledgling hive. They communicate with their family through a combination of antennae touches and flashing of their black and gold markings that simulate a bee's waggle dance. For years they lived much like any of their kind, until a spiral dragon approached them. Apis reacted aggressively at first, believing the spiral to be an invader. However, over time they realized that the stranger was only curious, and became curious of them in return. It took some months, but the newcomer- Ambrosia- was able to teach Apis to speak draconic, and was actually the one to give them their name- as bees have no use for names. From both conversations with Apis and a magically aided "conversation" with the hive's queen, to learn the true nature of hive dragons.

Love Life: As Apis spent more time with Ambrosia, they found themselves drawn to the stranger who was so like and unlike them. Similarly, Am's scientific fascination with Apis turned into a more general comradery, and then into a closeness that surprised them. Am often jokes that Apis "witched me with bee pheromones" to which Apis just rolls their eyes and gently swats the spiral.
