Kage felt his mother's spite from the moment he emerged from his egg. He knew from his first breath that he was, at least to his mother, a disappointment. As Kage fell within the gaze of his mother she immediately turned away with disgust, "Dispose of that one immediately." His mother ordered, "I will not have this bloodline tainted by whatever ailment has afflicted that one." A nearby servant grabbed Kage and swiftly exited the nesting chamber. Confusion flooded the younglings mind, some instinct told Kage that this was not right, he felt fear rush over him. He struggled against the dragon holding him within its talons. Kage may have only been seconds old, but felt within him that if he did not escape now his life would be forfeit. Once he managed to wriggle free from his executioner, Kage moved as fast as a hatchling could. He ducked around the corridors of the palace in search of a place to hide. Hot on his trail was the servant. A nearby door was slightly propped open. Kage took his chance and skirted into the door. He had arrived into a large room with a desk in the center. Behind the desk a dragon held their head in their hands. The Dragon had not noticed Kage yet. Very quietly, Kage slipped underneath the desk. Instantly, Kage melted into the shadows as if he was made from them. The door to the room swung open and the servant rushed in. "Yes?" The Dragon at the desk asked, clearly puzzled by the intrusion. "My apologies for the intrusion Sire. I could have sworn it ran in here." The white dragon seemed confused, "What ran in here? I didn't see anything running in here." "It was a rat. The darn creature slipped from my grasp. I will go look somewhere else for it." The servant quickly exited the room, closing the door behind him. “You can come out little one, he’s gone.” Kage felt the soft gaze of the white dragon “I will say that you are quite hard to see under there.” With his heart racing Kage attempted to make a bolt for it. The white dragon was ready, he scooped up Kage with one swift motion. “It is ok, I mean you know harm.” At that moment there was a knock on the door. Kage’s spirits were crushed as his mother walked in. “They’ve hatched Fazed, three of them.” His mother was lying. The white dragon held Kage closer, “I believe you mean four.” His mother’s face flickered with brief horror. “Oh, yes. He must have hatched while I was away.” She would not even look at him, “Here, I’ll have one of the servants take him back to the nest.” “No. He will be staying here with me. I want to watch over this one, you’ll have your hands full. Let me help you with watching over this little one.” Kage realized that this white dragon was his father. He finally smelted the paternal scent on him. Kage snuggled in closer to his dad. As long as he was with him, Kage felt safe and out of his mother’s murderous clutches. Kage watched his mother calmly walk out of the office. He could sense the underlying loathing feelings that were held by his mother. Kage refused to leave his father’s side as he grew and Fazed knew that one day, Jubilee would attempt to take Kage’s life again. So, in preparation for that day, Fazed raised Kage to be a warrior and a scholar. Hoping to one day, even though it would break his heart, send his son away to another kingdom. That day finally came. There were rumors circling of a plot to kill Kage. Kage knew where he would be going. His father had set up a diplomatic position through his friend Frear. Frear’s older sister, Arrix, had extended her assistance once she had heard the situation. Kage would be going to a clan located within the Gladeveins. In Arrix’s letter, she mentioned that the Gladeveins are practically a maze to outsiders and that Kage’s safety could be guaranteed. Kage gave his father one last hug “I hope to see you again.” was all he could manage. His eyes were leaking more than usual. His father nodded, “That is something I wish more than anything. Be safe Kage.” Arrix and her mate had just arrived. She spoke in a soft voice, “We must make haste. I will not feel safe until we are located within the Labyrinth.” And with those words, Kage left his home. He left for the sake of his father and for the protection of his own life. -Kage: name meaning shadow -During his training with his father, Kage found that he has the ability to melt into shadows. He has yet to discover any other abilities that he may have been blessed with. -He has severe social anxiety (probably from all the death threats) -He's an adept scholar and warrior though he chooses to be more of a scholar
