| THE BEAR |
There were whispered rumors among the scattered villages that dotted the foot of the Cloudscrape Crags, stories of a monstrous bear-like Tundra of abnormally large size and ferocity that lingered deep within the towering peaks. Terrified travelers that had made the long passage through the Crags would come rambling of a creature not fully dragon that had borne down on them from the fog, its maddened roars revealing unnaturally elongated teeth and piecing claws, distorted by a taste for flesh and meat. It was a story Montel and Olwyn were more than familiar with when they'd led the first of the Tribe down an unfamiliar road in navigation of a recent avalanche, and yet even they still found themselves stunned into astonishment when a loud commotion suddenly broke out among the group, and they turned to find Banagher clashing claws with an enraged Tundra nearly two-thirds his size. Though true in form and ferocity to the stories he inspired, the Tribe was quick to find that his mind wasn't nearly as far gone as the rumors entailed, when in backing him down from his confrontation, they were met with his furious but cohesive snarls. Angry growls of intruders disturbing the snow. His den crushed in the avalanche that had altered their trail. And above it all... something strange and ominous about melting ice. In an attempt to calm him down, Rowell noted that there would surely be more suitable dens along their journey if he chose to back down and follow them through the Crags, silencing the bear into a moment of contemplation. The thought of joining the group seemed to disquiet him greatly, but after some begrudged grumbling, Bjorn had finally conceded. It had been the Tribe's full expectation that Bjorn would be gone within days, eager to return to his former solitude the first chance he got. But somewhere along the way, it seemed a most bizarre change had suddenly gripped the bearish Tundra, the moment he'd become aware of the presence of Rin. As they rested from their day's travels, quietly talking about what it was the Fae sought at the solstice of Winter, they never noticed Bjorn turning towards them in sudden interest, listening intently to their every word. Despite passing many suitable dens, he strangely denied every single one, until he had ended up following them all the way to the heart of the Reclaimer's Glacier, where he beheld Rin's display in almost a daze. To this day, Bjorn has not left, continuing to travel alongside the Snowsquall Tribe long after it has grown into a sizable following. Though they can't deny the benefit in having another of Banagher's ferocity on their side, there continues to be much curiosity among the first members of the tribe, as they wonder what exactly it was about the Fae that captivated the reclusive bear's interest so suddenly. |

It would be for but a moment, opened up through Fenrir's conversing, that Bjorn would ever give hint in revealing the doomed home and kin he had left behind. There had once been others like him, far to the north in what was once an endless stretch of connected ice, born the last of an anomalous subset of monstrous Tundras that had adapted to the empty expanse by turning to the hunting of fish and meat. But as he grew older, the cracks in the ice began to appear, the land shattering under the warming air. Bjorn found himself forced further and further south as he watched his once proud home slowly shrink and float away, becoming what was now the fractured remains of the Frigid Floes... and all traces of his kind seemed to fall apart along with it.

He'd finally hidden himself away deep within the Cloudscrape Crags, where there in the shadows of the towering peaks he would not have to bear the sight of what remained slowly melt away. After such a long and bitter life of dread and growing anger, meeting Rin has sparked the first gleam of hope he has felt since his seclusion. Of all the hushed whispers of what Rin might be looking for at the end of their journey, Bjorn personally believes it to be a call to the ancient winters that once protected their realm, blanketing the entire southern region of Sornieth in a proud expanse of ice. Though his loner nature struggles with lingering among the tribe, he's become taken with joining them in protecting their strange Fae, where he hopes that one day Rin will finally achieve its full call, and Bjorn could perhaps see his fragmented home whole again once more. 0000000000000000000000000000000 |
