Stag Figurine
-
It's often no big deal for a dragon to come across a magic scroll and change their form to that of a different dragon entirely! But this begs the question as to what would happen if something that WASN'T a dragon, at least on the outside, were to stumble across such potent magic?
-
Breed Change: Imperial
An unspecified amount of time ago, a young deer stag seeking to escape the hardships and stress of his former life stumbled his way through the forbidden portal. Weakened, he raised his head, took in his surroundings, and knew that he had finally found just the place he'd been searching for: Sornieth. The land of dragons.
There was a reason that he had found himself here, however. He crept his way away from the dangerous area, and began to search. But for what exactly?
After weeks, he came across exactly what he had been hoping to find: a simple scroll case embedded halfway in the soil, long forgotten. Inside that case was a single weathered scroll. He gently picked it up in his hooves, unfurled it, and with a fervent wish in his heart he harnessed the magic of the scroll to cast the strongest of spells on himself. Within an instant, magical flames erupted from all around to enshroud him.

He was not afraid. For oh so long, this was the single shining moment that he had been waiting for.
As the flames intensified, from where his slender form had once stood, a massive creature erupted skyward. As tall as a skyscraper and as brilliant as a ruby, a gigantic red dragon turned its head to the heavens and let loose a deafening howl across the land. No longer was he just a buck anymore, he was finally, finally what he had desired to be the most; what he knew he was all along in his heart: a dragon.

He gently lowered to the ground, his small and dainty feet cushioning his landing. He looked himself over, nearly tying his lengthy body into excited knots taking in his new appearance with pure joy bubbling in his chest. It was euphoric! He was as beautiful and as majestic as he had always dreamed... However, it wasn't long before a wave of exhaustion overtook him, and his form diminished. A shower of glistening sparks left behind the simple form of a stag once more where moments before a magnificent dragon had stood. Despondent, he fell to his knees, the fleeting moment of joy gone as soon as it had begun. What went wrong? Was he just not powerful enough? was it meant to only be a temporary joy? He felt tears plague his eyes as the thoughts plagued his mind, before a gentle voice suddenly spoke up behind him.

"Don't worry!"
He jumped up and spun around. Behind him, he beheld a fluffy white dragon! Barely much taller than he was, the dragon meekly crept up to him with a warm, friendly smile.

"I-if I'm not mistaken with how scrolls work, the magic has imbued itself into you permanently. Those normally only work on dragons... I've never seen its affect on any other kind of creature before. You might just be too tired to maintain that form right now."

"Who are you?"

"I'm not actually sure myself! My memory isn't so good so I think I got lost." the dragon said, "Are you lost too? I was more wondering who YOU are. After all, I'm sure you gave everybody quite a fright with that roar of yours." he chuckled nervously, "We almost thought that an emperor had found its way here!"

"You want my name?" He paused. This was a new world that he was in. A new identity and a new life was waiting for him. After a bit of consideration, he finally spoke up.

"I am Vulkin."

Hidden deep within the mesmerizing branches of the Starwood Strand rests a vast complex that stretches high both above and below ground with many expansive, decorated halls. Within these halls, many massive dragons make their homes. Much goes on within this lair day by day, be it studies, alchemy, combat training, or raising families. It is said that the balconies of this lair provide some of the most breathtaking views of the sunrises and sunsets painting the sky in vivid pastels and neons amongst the glowing boughs.

The Burning Flowers Clan is humble, and does not consider themselves fiercely loyal to any deity, nor do they exist to serve any sort of higher purpose. Rather, they seek to carve out their own ways in unity with the friends and family they have chosen to surround themselves with.

This band of dragons is founded and led by its "Traveler", Vulkin, a wayward wanderer from a different world who used potent magic to transform himself from a deer into a dragon. The clan itself was technically formed by both Vulkin AND Finch the tundra dragon, although Finch does not consider himself to be a leader and allowed Vulkin to take up the mantle instead (with a bit of help from his two other appointed leaders, Purity and Sonata). From this humble home base, Vulkin keeps a watchful eye over his charge and protects them with his powerful dragon form from all outside threats too great for his diplomats or warriors to take care of (not that many will try, being painfully aware of how many imperials this lair is home to).

The clan is primarily run by young imperials who Vulkin had recruited in his travels, with Sonata and Purity acting as the clan's leaders and diplomats to assist Vulkin. The three of them do the legwork maintaining the lair's finances, resources, and making sure that everybody is happy, healthy, and getting along. The twin tundras Finch and Noir act as guards that keep close to their leaders at all times, and are the point of contact between Vulkin and a powerful charge of gaolers who collectively act as the clan's first line of defense against outside threats (although Vulkin mostly just likes having them around because they're just SO cute). The clan also houses many wayward imperials who simply seek refuge to study and perfect their magic in a place they know they will be safe and well-provided for. At some point, an entire crew of aethers also managed to bumble their way into the lair and never quite left. What a hodgepodge!

Unassuming at first glance, Vulkin always had something strange about him. Even before he found himself entering the portal to Sornieth and experiencing his magic transformation, one wouldn't normally expect to see distinctly canid teeth on a deer of all things, or antlers on a born-doe for that matter, and these were all things he was acutely aware of. Hearing rumors of magical lands where he would be able to fully realize the thoughts nagging at the back of his mind drove him to finally pursue the magic for himself.

He'd known all along that he wasn't meant to be born as the creature that he was, but little did he know that the truth of his identity that was waiting for him was much greater than he could ever imagine.

As a product of magic rather than being natural-born, there are many differences between Vulkin and a standard imperial. Primarily his size, as an incredible amount of magic imbued itself into him, causing his size to explode to unbelievable proportions. As long as a highrise skyscraper, there is almost no threat that dares to stand up to him. He also lacks the whiskers that imperials have, instead sporting a second shorter pair of forward-facing antlers that guard the sides of his face. His body is covered with millions of small, iridescent scales that change color and shimmer brilliantly in the sunlight. He is not able to maintain his dragon form for longer than a few hours, and is able to transform back and forth to his standard form at will.

As his volcanic name suggests, Vulkin possesses potent fire magic with enough raw power to make even an emperor think twice before coming onto his clan's territory. Vulkin has the ability to concentrate his flames into an explosive "beam" that can tear up chunks of earth and remove flesh from bone in an instant on even the most armored creature. When he breathes fire, the luxurious blue mane that flows down the entire length of his back billows outward and backward, turning into a powerful spout of flames to counteract the force of the fire he's breathing. Despite this, Vulkin does not enjoy conflict and prefers to only unleash this raw power when he deems it absolutely necessary to the safety of his clan.

Also unlike the imperials of Sornieth, Vulkin lacks wings of any sort, being able to fly perfectly fine without them. Instead, he has the ability to conjure glassy wings made of solid, pure fire energy. They serve no real function other than being for the purpose of intimidation or display.
