about.

bast, like all other shade-eaters, woke parallel with the rampage of luminax. she does not recall much of her dormancy--a half-alive state underneath the ruins in a tomb their most glorious mother laid them to rest in, to hide the shame of their creation, an entire age of silence--but she woke with purpose. to hunt the shade.

he had done so before--his vessel still full of the sickly murk, his wings too dull to properly expel it from his body--though only once before his and his siblings' entombment. despite his flawed body, when the terrible thunderous claws of the emperor tore through the ground, he was one of the few shade eaters to not shatter instantly. when the light of the sun fell across him once more, it was as if a lantern had been lit inside him, and he could feel a great overwhelming tug eastward. to the beacon of the radiant eye. where his mother rests.

when she and what remained of her siblings reached the perch of the lightweaver, the deity was solemn. if she was happy to see them she did not show it. if she was afraid for her flight's fate now that the emperor had risen she did not show that either. she passively welcomed them home, and set them to a task: fight luminax.

bast was the only shade-eater to survive. when he returned home a second time, the lightweaver did let her emotions show. sorrow. a deep and profound sorrow. she commended bast's bravery, and his resilience. she inducted him into the guard of the beacon of the radiant eye. as time passed, he rose in the ranks, and was eventually appointed second in command of security. the captain of the guard protected the lightweaver herself, and bast was appointed to her apprentice.

entos. priestess of the sun and stars. a beautiful veilspun tasked with keeping records of events and interpreting prophecies. it is in no pressing danger, truly, but bast guards it with her life all the same. the pair clicked in a way fortunate for dragons assigned to each others company and have grown ever closer as time passes. it was entos who suggested reinforcing bast's fragile body with iron filigree, a ferramenta as is used for stained glass windows.

bast loves her. he cannot help it. she is his counterpart, his charge, his reason for living. every shade he's consumed since has been in service of her. his priestess.

Shattered Glass Ancestral Incense Moth-Eaten Rug

story.

Careful dark claws adjust the collar of the banner that hangs affixed to Bast's chest. The Priestess runs her hands over the layered gold fabric, smoothing it out. She's warm, and Bast stiffens ever so slightly under the touch. The banner is emblazoned on one end with the symbol of the Light Flight, and the other end a stylized sun--the symbol of his Priestess. She smiles, long narrow muzzle tilting up and to the side so she can meet his gaze, and a flower petal drifts down from her branches.

"You look very handsome, Bast," she says in a voice that is almost a purr. Her hands are still on his chest.

Bast can feel the liquid in her chest heating up. Trying his hardest to not seem flustered, he clears his throat, shifts just enough that his Priestess pulls her hands back. "Thank you, my lady." His voice is high, smooth. He is thankful it did not crack.

"Our most glorious mother was right." She playfully taps the horn on the center of his forehead with one claw. He scrunches his nose without thinking, and a tiny laugh falls from behind her fangs. "Extending the filigree to your horn really does add to the look."

"Thank you, my lady," he repeats stiffly, worried the shade in his throat is growing close to bubbling.

"Well, I think we're ready to depart. After you, darling." She gestures towards the stairs of the Beacon, but she does not need to. Bast would have taken the lead even without it. Outside her chambers, two guards are posted, both in green armor resembling Bast's but with none of the extra elegance. Both have the golden layered collar, but neither have the banners, nor the wrought iron ferramenta. The pair of them--a bogsneak and a skydancer--hold long spiraling spears. The bogsneak shoots Bast a look, eyebrows quirked up, and he does not meet it. His Priestess' business is his business, regardless what the other guards may whisper.

Bast can sense innately that up the stairs is their patron deity, their luminous mother, the Lightweaver herself. He knows his captain, the only guard ranked above him, is at her side the way he is at her apprentice's. He does not worry, but he keeps the pull to the Lightweaver in his mind at all times regardless. His Priestess is making polite conversation with the guards stationed outside her door, and Bast does not even need to pause by the stairs before she's joined him once more.

Down the tall spiral tower and out into the courtyard. The grass is yellow, but not in a lifeless way. Marble pillars line the path, topped with plates that curve as if intended as bird baths, but rather than water they are filled with the shimmering magic-infused orbs that illuminate the Sundial Ruins.
