❝ Even those who seem nice hold dark secrets... ❞
xxx His Search lead him to something unbelievable. A fragment of the Shade. It was almost unheard of, a Guardian finding their Charge in the Shade. Honeycreeper was likely one of few Guardians, if not the only one, to have the Shade itself as their charge. At first he had thought there was something in the Shade that he had to uncover, but when he neared the broken fragment, it reached out to him in a way that only a Guardian's Charge would. It scared him, as it should any sane dragon, but he knew this was his Charge, and he was incomplete without it, so he took it. The Shade seemingly clung to his form, and no matter what he did to get it off, it held on tighter. He had no idea how his parents or the rest of the Forgotten Kingdom would react, but he knew it likely wouldn’t be good. And he was right. Mere moments after Honeycreeper stepped foot into the kingdom, all eyes were on him and the fragment of Shade he wore almost like jewelry. His parents were immediately ushered forth before him to decide whether he should stay or not. He saw his brother, Starling, timidly following behind them, likely curious on why his brother was in trouble. Starling's eyes widened when he saw the Shade, but there was no other explicit fear. Just shock. His parents ultimately decided they no longer wanted him around as long as he had the Shade. When asked if he could get rid of it, he demonstrated just how hard it clung to his body, unable to be moved. The dragons of the Forgotten Kingdom almost immediately began shooing him away, and he tried desperately to get to Starling, pleading to at least say goodbye to his slightly older nestmate. He was almost denied the chance, before he felt the other Guardian barrel into him in a hug. It only lasted a few seconds before they were pried away from each other and Starling was dragged back into the walls of the kingdom, while the doors shut in Honeycreeper's face. The next couple of weeks were spent wandering the auction house, hoping someone would take him. No such luck. Besides, who would want a Shade-touched creature like him? Honeycreeper eventually left the auction house, spending hours everyday wandering the different flight territories in hopes of finding a clan who would take pity on him and bring him in, even if only for a few days. During his journeys, Honeycreeper constantly found himself drawn to areas where a Shade fragment lay. He would pick up the fragments, taking them with him, already knowing that if nobody would take him in with just one fragment, he may as well just take others he finds. He's found six fragments total so far, and as much as he hates his mind for thinking this, he hopes to find more. Eventually, Honeycreeper found himself at an exalt rescue, where he finally got some shelter. Now, he spends his time waiting for a clan to take him in and practicing using the Shade to his advantage (and finding out just how much of an effect it can have on his mind). He isn't sure how long it will take, but he is willing to wait as long as is needed to finally find a home that accepts him.
