BONEYARD CRAWLERS

Habitat and Ecology

Throughout the Scarred Wasteland, sounds can be heard of blood dripping, viscera squelching underfoot, and tooth scratching on bone. These wandering scavengers, the Boneyard Crawlers, sort through the septic refuse and seek to clean the carcasses of the hundreds of creatures that have fallen to the wretched environment, many of them Pilgrims to the Wyrmwood, who even in death honour the Plaguebringer by Feeding the Contagion.

The Plaguebringer's own pollinators, Boneyard Crawlers serve as key Vectors of Contagion, ensuring the natural mutations that slowly bubble across the undergrowth of Rot are spread far and wide, intermingle, propagate and take hold in as many unwilling hosts as possible.

Lifestyle and Social Structure

An Imperial leads the Crawlers, excavating the deepest piles and churning the bones to expose buried rotten flesh shielded from the noxious atmosphere. Having had their fill, the rest is spread out and trawled by Bogsneaks, who strip any materials or trinkets that had been buried with their former owners. What remains is picked clean by a frenzy of starving Spirals, flitting and zipping across the Boneyard, consuming both the last crumbs of flesh and carrion insects alike.

Environmental Adaptions

Immersed in filth from the day they hatch, the Boneyard Crawlers are resistant to all forms of infection, poisoning and disease, no matter how many punctures, gashes and lesions the splintered bones inflict. However, stripped of the stinking stew that coats their bleached skin and scales, they easily fall victim to cleansing rays of sunlight. Thus they shield their bodies with darkened wings when resting, and stay beneath the clouds of fetid fog and carrion insects, ensuring they are forever on the move, seeking their next meal.
