Biography
Rosaline has never claimed to be a smart person. She’s happy and hardworking, and she does her best to help others, but she’s never been much of an academic. She’s always been too busy managing her farm to spend much time reading, and she’s never been one for gossip or tall tales.
As a result, she genuinely didn’t realize that her current wife Baphomet was a vampire until they’d been dating for over a year.
In her defense, there always seemed to be a reasonable explanation for all of Baphomet’s little idiosyncrasies. When they first met, Rosaline was on her way home from a long, busy day at the market, and so she’d been too tired to notice how Baphomet’s injuries healed supernaturally fast after they’d been cleaned and bandaged. As she’d spent more time with Baphomet, she’d just assumed that her aversion to the sun was because Baphomet was pale and furless, and that she was worried about sun burns. Baphomet thought that Rosaline was incredibly brave, nursing a vampire back to health in her own home, but Rosaline just honestly didn’t notice.
She did notice that Baphomet was interested in her, at least. Baphomet, bless her heart, was pretty obvious when she started bringing gifts of jewels and silks and gold. But Rosaline had never cared for such frivolities, and so she did her best to gently turn Baphomet’s offerings away.
And then one evening, Baphomet had come out to help Rosaline fix a broken fence, using her vampire strength to drive posts into the ground bare-handed, and two things happened. One, Rosaline felt the first flutterings of interest in Baphomet begin to stir in her heart. And two, she finally caught a clue that maybe there was something odd going on with her house guest.
It still took her almost a full year before she finally pieced the (incredibly obvious, in hindsight) clues together.
Rosaline is incredibly grateful that Baphomet never seemed to catch on to how clueless she had been for so long, and she plans to never tell her wife the truth, for fear of how horribly she’d be teased about it. As far as she’s concerned, she knows now, and that’s all that matters.
Well, that and the fact that she loves her vampire wife very much. That matters too.
