Zephyrbone

Zephyrbone was born in the Highland Scrub of the Shifting Expanse to Hermus and Decimius. He was the second eldest out of a litter of four, growing up alongside his older brother Ryder, an unnamed younger sister, and a younger brother named Ece. The four of them were very close as hatchlings, and proved to be an optimal family unit. Born in the middle of a wartime period to a very prominent Lightning clan, all four of them were thrust into battle at a very young age. They were forced to work together to survive; scavenging along the border of the Shifting Expanse and the Ashfall Waste. Despite the circumstances, they were very happy. They enjoyed living together, traveling as a pack, basking in the glory of victory...

Eventually, the war ended. Zephyrbone and his siblings were turned upside down. How do you continue life when all you've known is war? They all struggled with adjusting to civilian life, with Zephyrbone suffering the most. His eldest brother, Ryder, soon exalted himself to the ranks of the Flamecaller. He had decided to find another cause to fight for, to engage in perpetual combat over Sornieth. Zephyrbone never saw him again, and felt like his family unit was starting to break. Ece eventually left as well, joining up with a clan in the Viridian Labyrinth. Not wanting to be the one left behind, Zephyrbone was the next to leave-- fully separating the four of them for the rest of their lives. It was tough, but Zephyrbone had to accept that this part of his life was over. Ultimately, the dragon decided to make his charge in life to build another family unit; to be a part of such a loving group once more.

Zephyrbone spent much of the later years of his childhood wandering the Emberglow Hearth of the Ashfell Waste, always staying close to the border of the Shifting Expanse but never quite crossing over. Much of the fighting he had done in his younger years had occurred on the Ashfell Waste side, and somehow he was finding himself nostalgic for the old days (even if they happened to be quite brutal). He felt that the war had given him direction. Despite that, he had been a child at the time. He didn't even know what they had been fighting for. Zephyrbone settled down in a clan under the control of the Vulcan Empire. It was there that he learned the true nature of the war he had fought in. It shocked him to discover that he was made to fight as a child soldier in a pointless conflict. Many different families slaughtered each other over a minor border dispute-- ruining hundreds of lives over a single patch of territory. This angered Zephyrbone, as he felt that this was something that could have been solved without endangering him as a child. As he read more about his past, he was able to piece together that the dispute had been started by House Magmic. They had claimed that several border territories in both the Windswept Plateau and the Shifting Expanse was owed to itself and several other families; citing a treaty written two centuries prior. Angered by this newfound information, Zephyrbone ran away-- leaving the Vulcan Empire and running off into the wilderness. Eventually, Zephyrbone made his way back into the Highland Scrub of the Shifting Expanse. Upon his arrival, he discovered that things had changed. Many clans had been pushed out to make way for a new territory-- the Routic Imperium. Taking control over much of the Highland Scrub, House Router had established themselves as a powerful new influence within the Shifting Expanse. Curious to see what had become of his home, Zephyrbone joined up with the Routic Imperium; which was still looking for ways to grow. They happily welcomed him into the clan, providing Zephyrbone with much needed emotional warmth. Although he did not fit in with the members of House Router, Zephyrbone found his new family in Serpentkiss and Ashenidol.

The three of them were considered to be of lower stature, dragons who sat on the outskirts of the greater social circles of the Routic Imperium. They got along like a fire, quickly forming an unbreakable friend group. Many citizens began to know them for always hanging out in a different part of the clan every day, chatting away amongst themselves. Zephyrbone soon found himself falling in-love with Serpentkiss, after spending a particularly fun night together at a party. The two started dating, unintentionally putting distance between the two of them and Ashenidol. Zephyrbone didn't notice it at the time, as he was just happy to have found a new family.

As a way of expressing their intent to make her feel welcome and at home within the clan, Queen Silkrouter gifted the young Zephyrbone a Proto Manticore. He decided to name it Aipollen, inspired by its monkey-like face. Ashenidol was also given a familiar of her own by the Queen. As a result, Ashenidol and Zephyrbone felt as if they owed something to the clan. They both wanted to contribute, to become important contributors to the prosperity of their community. Together, they petitioned Chief Warmaster Mosspelt to allow them to enter the Knight's Academy; requesting that they be trained to serve in the clan's standing army as official Paladins. Although they were still young, Chief Warmaster Mosspelt could see there was a certain passion in their eyes. She could tell they cared greatly for the clan. She agreed to let them train to become Paladins under her guiding hand, hoping to shape them into the blueprint for all future Paladins within the clan. After a few short years of training at the Knight's Academy, both Zephyrbone and Ashenidol were officially made Paladins to House Router; serving in the second regimen of the Routic Imperium's official standing army. The two of them took their newfound roles very seriously, and trained every day to hone their combat skills. With the clan's strength and prominence on the rise, Paladin Zephyrbone noticed that the dragons he had aligned himself with were unhappy with the amount of representation they were receiving. As a result, he devised a plan to change that. Coming together with Chief Warmaster Mosspelt, Psionic Mage Canyondust, Paladin Ashenidol, and Serpentkiss, the five dragons petitioned the King and Queen to form a new House of their own: House Abyssal of the Shifting Expanse. Together, the dragons sought to form a council of mages and military specialists to lead their subsection of the clan. Chief Warmaster Mosspelt was chosen to be the head of this council, and become the main figurehead of House Abyssal.
