dating Murmillo

--

Cloudsinger has been waiting for this day ever since she started to date Murmillo.

She was so excited that her feet could barely touch the ground as she walked into Gelibol’s Tavern. Cloudsinger spotted the love of her life almost instantly, not because he was the only average Aberration customer, but because he was busy drinking the day away as always. He was in the middle of trying to drink out of as many cups as he could with his pair of heads, being encouraged by a few onlookers. When he finished drinking from his current record of eleven drinks at once, Cloudsinger went up to him before the flamboyant Aberration could ask for another swig.

“‘Ey, Murmillo!” said the Obelisk, sitting down at her date’s table, happily drumming her claws against it. One of Murmillo’s heads turned to Cloudsinger, while the other one was looking the opposite direction, going silent instead of yelling for a drink like it was planning to.

“What’s up, Cloudy?” the dominant head said, smiling. “Wanting to watch me beat my record again?”

Cloudsinger laughed, but shook her head. “Not, not this time. I’ve been doing some thinkin’.”

“You can do that?” Murmillo’s joke earned him a gentle smack to his face, and he sneered. “Alright, but really. Whatcha thinking about?”

“Well, I figured you and I can go on a lil date, or a hike of sorts. We can adventure out and see what the Windsinger has in store for us today!”

Murmillo blinked, his other head slowly turning back to look at Cloudsinger; they could never understand what was so great about the Windsinger. He was just an extra long Spiral to them! Nonetheless, the Aberration shrugged.

“Well, as long as you’re cool with it. I can do anything, you know!” he cried, sticking both of his noses into the air like a snooty hatchling. His Obelisk mate chuckled.

“Great! Let’s go on out there, then!” she cried, grasping one of Murmillo’s claws.

“W-Wait, now!? But I gotta-”

Poor Murmillo wasn’t given time to protest as Cloudsinger took him out of the tavern, excited for all the time she would get to spend with the Aberration. She led him through the Millmeadows, pointing out almost every windmill in sight; Murmillo had no clue what a windmill was, not to mention anything else about the rest of the Windswept Plateau. He just came for the tavern, really, never thinking he would fall in love with someone so adventurous.

“... and with the help of all these windy-mills, the whole Plateau benefits!” Cloudsinger was in the middle of saying, squeezing Murmillo’s claw tight. Said Aberration was too busy slurping on another drink he snuck on the trip to really pay attention, but he perked up as soon as he noticed his date had stopped speaking.

“Oh really?” he replied, feeling a bit bad for not listening. He wouldn’t have to worry much longer, however, as Cloudsinger went right back to talking about the area, and occasionally the Windsinger. Murmillo blinked at how quickly the Obelisk could change the subject, but said nothing; Cloudsinger was enjoying this, so he was too.

After the couple, claws still stuck together like a mother and their shy hatchling, came out of the Millmeadows, a sight in the distance caught Murmillo’s eye. It wasn’t the Aergate, which was what Cloudsinger had her eyes on, nor the massive Cloudsong, but the Twisting Crescendo. Murmillo’s wings twitched, and his sudden desire to show off took hold of him; seeing all of those other dragons flying near or in it with ease made him want to do the same too! Murmillo could do anything after all!

Sticking his chest out, Murmillo led the way, dragging a confused Cloudsinger with him.

“Huh? ‘Ey, Murmillo… where are we goin’?” she asked. The Aberration pointed to the Crescendo with a wide grin.

“I’m gonna show everyone what Murmillo can do!” he cried, spreading his wings once he got close enough to the powerful winds. Cloudsinger’s enthusiasm and confusion turned to worry, and soon fear; she never saw Murmillo fly before. Could he even fly to begin with?

“Wait, Murmillo! Maybe you could try an’ find an easier gust or-” the Obelisk tried to protest, but Murmillo had already let go of her, flying up to the Crescendo. He seemed to be flying just fine…

Until, as if on cue, the winds swept the Aberration up and knocked him off balance, causing him to disappear into the Twisting Crescendo.

“MURMILLO!” Cloudsinger cried, lifting off after her beloved. “Oh Windsinger, don't let him die in there please!”

The Obelisk was more agile in the air near the powerful winds, and dove into them without a second thought, desperate; if she killed Murmillo on one of their first dates together, she would refuse to talk with anyone ever again.

“Murmillo!? MURMILLO!?!” Cloudsinger screamed and yelled for her date, her cries louder than the winds around her, catching the attention of a few passersby.

“MURMILLOOOOO- OW!”

The Obelisk was forced to stop screaming when a cup came flying at her snout, nearly knocking her off balance. She caught a glimpse of it as it disappeared into the winds, and she lit up; that was Murmillo’s cup!

“MURMILLO! MURMILLO SPEAK TO ME!” she cried again, and she could hear her name being called not too far away. Inhaling, Cloudsinger pushed forward towards her name, soon slamming into a squirming dragon. She quickly wrapped her arms around them, looking down. The dragon in her arms sighed loudly in relief.

“CLOUDY! GET US OUTTA HERE!” he screamed, and Cloudsinger obeyed, bursting out of the Twisting Crescendo with Murmillo in her arms.

When the pair got a fair distance away, Cloudsinger landed, setting Murmillo down, who shivered and instantly ducked to the ground. He wasn’t scared or traumatized, just shocked from his experience. Cloudsinger, on the other hand, was terrified. She was already by Murmillo’s side as he ducked to the ground, breathing heavily.

“Murmillo what were you THINKIN’ are you okay did you get hurt!?” she cried, and her Aberration date looked up to her, blinking.

“Hey hey, calm down! I’m perfectly fine, just… flapped my wings the wrong way,” he said, smiling. “Don’t worry yourself to a wart.”

Ecstatic that Murmillo was still his old self, Cloudsinger hugged him, soon smiling herself.

“Thank Windsinger you’re okay!”

“Ha, no, I’m thanking you.”

Murmillo’s comment made Cloudsinger light up, and he squeezed the Aberration, thanking the Windsinger more regardless.

“... So, um,” Murmillo began, looking up to Cloudsinger. “Do you think we could go back home? Those drinks won’t drink themselves, you know.”

Cloudsinger laughed, letting Murmillo go and grasping his talon as if he would disappear into the wind again if she didn’t

“O’ course, Murmillo. Let’s go.”
