Time Tot | ??? | ???

It was a dark and dreary evening, the shadows all-encompassing as an eerie fog shadowed the lightless moon, plunging the marshlands into darkness. Plunging the marshlands into a darkness which rivaled the deepest and darkest void. It was here that Markham traveled, trudging along to the sounds of creatures in the night.

He marched through the marshlands of an alien and inhospitable world, completely unafraid of the creatures which lurked in the dark. Beings of fire, beings of rot, all with their own unique sets of fangs and claws. He just didn't care, he had seen it all before... and he was so, so bored.

He didn't even bother to hide his footsteps as he loudly stomped through the marsh, daring anything to challenge his advance. If anything, he would welcome a challenge to combat this mundanity of another boring mission, another disappointing hunt.

He had taken it in hopes of combating his dull evening and of satiating his bloodlust. The mission had seemed promising at first, as it hyped up the dangers of his situation. However, once the mission had begun, he was left seething in his own discontent. Whatever had been hunting him, had given up, and he preferred the thrill which came with a dangerous confrontation over this game of cat and mouse.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are. You bloody dastard" he grumbled as he pulled out his sword and began hacking away at the towering reeds. Reeds which towered overhead and clawed at the sky, shaking in the windless breeze as more scuttling could be heard. Markham stopped every once in awhile, bending down to inspect the sloughs of grey skin which had been shed along the path. Skin shaped in the faces of men with empty, hollow eye sockets and stretched slits where the mouths would have gone. It was almost like a molting, the faces scattered inside the reeds as they grew greater and greater in number with every step.

Strange wailings could be heard nearby, the odd scuttling of claws as his quarry fled deeper in the reed filled woods. The atmosphere may have been dreary, the creature inhuman, but that still wasn't enough. As he advanced, chasing the creature in a "breakneck" walk as it circled around him, Markham sighed and grumbled beneath his breath.

Eventually, the scuttling stopped, and he could catch sight of a horrifying creature... or at least, horrifying for anyone but him. The creature was primarily a bulbous lump of grey sludge, with a hulking figure rippling with muscles that ended in two large scuttling scythe shaped claws and a head covered in the multiple faces of human flesh. Each with its own grim expression. The creature reeked of rotting flesh, fish, and crab as its body sloughed off in varying directions... and for better or for worse Markham had somehow snuck up on it.

"There you are" he sighed as the creature's eyes suddenly flashed and it wheeled on him. Fangs baring out of each gruesome maw and claws raised high as it howled in rage. The multitude of mandibles flashed in the night as Markham barely flinched, staring at it with indifference as he questioned "I'm sorry, am I supposed to be scared?" he questioned before causally pulling a bag of the spiciest Cheetos from his pocket. After such a boring chase, he might as well have some fun. "Because all I feel is bored." he grumbled before chucking the bag into one of the creature's many open mouths.

It seemed shocked, reeling back with suddenly clamped jaws as Markham watched for a few moments as it struggled to contemplate the burning assault... Then casually hacked off the nape conjoining the creature's many heads.

He sighed yet again, hoisting his blade over his shoulder and staring around the planet with an annoyed and indifferent gaze "Well, I guess that's it for this mission." he mumbled as he collected a sample of flesh. After all, he had to prove that the creature was really dead. Immortality really did come at a cost, at the cost of boredom.
