______ Nytus, being young and dumb, did what all young and dumb idiots inevitably do: do something rash. In this case, as soon as Nytus caught sight of the newly rediscovered Aberrations, he knew in his heart what he had to do. AKA, be an absolute moron, make the flight out to the Scarred Wasteland, dodge angry plague dragon patrols on his tail, and then take a spinning swan dive into the Wyrmwound like an absolute idiot. He’s lucky he achieved his goal of becoming an Aberration rather than, you know, mutating into something else or dying horribly.

______ Seriously, the plague patrol took one look at the splash the nature dragon left behind and were all like well, there are easier ways to commit suicide, but I guess he’s not here to sabotage/attack our Flight, sooo…yeah. That incident is something still talked about in the barracks to this day, the plague dragons shaking their head at the weirdness of their arch enemy. They carry on under the belief that Nytus died in the lake that day, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

______ No, Nytus survived. It was another Aberration who fished the transforming Nytus out of the primordial goo. Said ancient thought what Nytus did was incredibly awesome, and that such dedication to becoming stronger was worthy of an Aberration. He helped the new ancient get his footing, so to speak, and learn how to survive in his new body.

______ Nytus is all alone in his head. Unlike other Aberrations, there is no second mind to match the dual heads - it’s just him inside. Something his ancient friend found hilarious, joking that he was an ‘aberration of an Aberration’. Getting used to having two heads and five eyes was the longest part of the adjustment for Nytus, to be quite honest. It was so beyond anything else Nytus had every experienced before, and the foreign sensations were almost overwhelming at first. But with his new friend’s guidance, Nytus mastered his new form, and eventually took flight to return home to the Thornspeaker clan.

______ Riptide and Aurel tore him a new one when he got home, the two having been frantic with worry when he disappeared, but ended that lecture by trying to hug him to death. To see him safe and sound was an absolute relief, nevermind that he was an Aberration now. They didn’t give two craps about that. They were just relieved their son was alright.

(Unlike his half-brother Avalon, who vanished in a magical teleportation spell of his own making, never to be seen again.)

______ Hilariously enough, Nytus still has the Guardian instinct to take a charge. And you wanna know what it is? Pinwheels. No, seriously. Nytus has like a bajillion of them decorating his treehouse den, inside and out, spinning merrily away in the breeze. He can leave them behind for extended periods of time without issue, but always has the urge to collect and hoard as many of them as he can.
