>Hearth is unlike most Gaolers in many ways. He is thoughtlessly kind but always considerate, friendly and dedicated, warm-hearted and hot-headed, and burning with passion and love. Freedom, compassion and forgiveness are the beliefs that guide his actions and interactions with others. While still fastidious, he maintains a hoard of thick furs, warm blankets, fluffy fleeces and softly glowing lamps that dimly illuminate his small but cozy lair.

>Hearth is more of a general heat and fire guy than a blacksmith but when Kishima had told him that Taiga was struggling to handle an ever-increasing workload, Hearth knew that there was no way he couldn't offer to help. And while he's no good at any of the fancy detail work, the basics of blacksmithing (1. heat metal 2. beat metal into submission) are pretty easy to grasp. It's not the best blacksmithing, but it gets the job done in a pinch when something needs to be fixed while Taiga's not around.

>It would usually be uncommon for someone to pick up an entirely new trade in the short amount of time Hearth has, but there's a secret to his success. See, Hearth is an ice flight dragon who has an especially ironic relationship with heat. The Spirit of Fire calls to him, you see, sings to him, speaks to him, in a way no one else seems to hear. His fur never catches in the fire and molten metal never burns his skin. The fire works with him as a partner instead of as a tool, and helps him in his metalwork and other fire-related tasks.
>It's terribly unfair advantage, and Taiga makes sure to tell him every time he sees him.

>Mediocre metalwork and enviable fire abilities aren't all Hearth brings to the table (or anvil), however, and also accompanying him are his fire-inclined familiars. Lara the Molten Marauder has taken up permanent residence in the foundry crucible while Calcinize the Emberglow Gem Guardian has made it clear that they much prefer their new home underneath the kitchen cauldron. It's fine, he doesn't feel abandoned at all. Okay, maybe a little. But really, he can't blame them either. Taiga's a great guy to be around, even if Hearth himself isn't too keen on spending his whole entire day in the dimly lit forge.

>Every year Hearth and the firekeeper, X, build a sauna wherever the clan might be at the time for their resident Coatls. He heats the hot room with his unusual magic and dedicates himself to maintaining the sweltering heat to ease the discomfort of his clanmates who have to fight the urge to return to their ancestral home every year. He volunteered himself to the task the first summer after joining the clan, starting a new clan tradition and unknowingly earning himself a small handful of steadfast Coatl friends in the process.

>Born to a traditional Goaler clan in the Southern Icefields, Hearth was one of the many in the first wave out of the Fortress of the Ends. His warm personality has always been at odds with the coldness of the jail and its residents. On the cusp of adulthood, but still too young to join an Order and receive a name, he snuck out with the Seekers when the Fortress gates first opened, making his escape whilst hidden in the crowd.

>It was not long before he found himself amongst his new clanmates, and good thing too--having lived in the Fortress his whole life, he had never learnt how to forage, fish, or hunt. Gaolers were not made to scavenge, and although he did his best with what he could safely gather, that best was not enough. Taken in by the clan when the found him weakened by hunger, he found himself amongst dragons of all different kinds; more importantly, however, he found himself amongst dragons who were kind.
