Biography

WIP

Cool currents of wind held Rainurr's mother aloft beneath the golden rays of sun. She and her mate were taking an early morning flight, soaring above the cracked earth and the crystals accompanying it. The two of them conversed about subjects on their daily clan life, such as farming and hunting, and while in the air they hugged each other as the sun crept over the horizon.
Life is good, the two of them thought, almost in unison. They completed each other.
Suddenly, from the ground, a massive spike ice erupted, rapidly approaching them.
"What's going on?" Shouted Rainurr's father. "Quick! Dive!"
The couple faced downward and fell into a dive toward the ground and away from the increasingly gigantic spike.
"I've never seen ice magic this strong!" the mother said, her eyes wide with worry. Her mate could not hear her, as the rushing wind was too loud. The ice was ever closer now; she could feel the tip of her tail growing cold. "We aren't going to make it!" She yelped, and she wrapped herself around her mate as he slowed himself, aware that there was no escape.
In a desperate attempt of hope, the mother reached out her talons and tried to use her earth magic to heave a boulder into the side of the freezing ice. The boulder only shattered into pieces, leaving the ice spike unharmed.
"NO!" Shouted her mate, and he held her as close to him as he possibly could. The ice began to envelop their tails, which led to their bodies, which led to their necks, their heads, and before they were unable to move completely, they looked into each other's eyes one last time.

A wicked snarl echoed from the ground below as the couple began to freeze. Neither of the two spirals had practiced their earth magic well, as they had no need to use it other than to aid the growth of crops. A gaoler with thick, shaggy fur emerged. Their eyes reflected the cold blue of ice.

Inside of an egg that grew colder and colder with the passing days was a small hatching, a hatchling who would eventually be named Rainurr as her egg was looked after by a member of her parent's clan. A foster parent could not warm the egg in the same way that her own parents could, but this dragon tried her very best, and was eventually granted with the joy of watching a hatchling see the world, for the very first time in their life. Though, there was something a little odd about this young dragon. Her body was not long and coiled like that of a regular spiral, but was rather short instead. Her wing membranes were much thinner than they should be, and the foster parent soon realized it would be unwise to teach her how to fly as her wings would tear.
"How unfortunate," murmured this foster parent, and she curled around the young spiral as the sky began to darken. She was quite a forgetful tundra, but she would remember this hatchling until her very own death.

Rainurr was older now, and her foster mother began to grow sick after returning from a battle with a rival clan. A plague dragon had infected her with a disease that none of her clan members could heal, and so she was taken away from the young spiral to keep her safe. Weeks passed, but nobody took proper care of Rainurr in the same way that her foster mother would. The tundra only grew sicker and sicker, and Rainurr was eventually brought to the clan leader. The leader decided that it would be best to bring the hatchling to a clan who would adopt her, and so began her trip to the Gale Valley clan.

As the leader was preparing himself to head out and bring Rainurr to an adoption center, Rainurr's sickly old foster mother emerged from the den in which she was resting in.
"Wait!" She urged, limping toward Rainurr. Her legs buckled beneath her and she almost fell so she slowed, steadying herself. "There's- there's something you should see. Show her the Sky Lair!" The tundra entered a coughing fit, and a clan member escorted her back to her den, strongly against her will.
The spiral was barely able to speak, but she seemed curious enough that the clan leader grumbled and began to lead her toward a cluster of trees trees
Through the trees, they emerged into a clearing with a tipped-over wooden structure. Attached to the bottom of it was a mostly damaged construction representing the windsinger.
"This belonged to your parents, if I remember correctly. They'd fly this thing around wherever they went. Nobody uses it now."
"Well, how about you bring it with the hatchling? She may as well keep using it when she's older, since all it's doing here is sitting in the dirt. Light the flames!" The sickly tundra appeared from the foliage and gestured to two deflated balloons resembling fabric parachutes. "That's an order, old man."
The snapper sighed. "Fine, whatever, I'll take it. She's never going to use this, though. She's a tiny little spiral who can barely understand a word I'm saying, and this is an old piece of wood in the dirt."
"It's my dying wish," said the tundra, and she entered a coughing fit again.
"Your body may come to rest, but your spirit never will," the leader mused. "Head back to your den; we still have hope."
The leader pushed on the side of the Sky Lair until it fell back upright, and then lit the burners beneath the two balloons without moving a single part of his body. The Sky Lair rose into the air again for the first time in months.

An imperial of Rainurr's clan was dragging the Sky Lair behind him by holding a large rope in his mouth which was attached to its underside. The snapper which led the clan rested on his back along with Rainurr as he soared through the sky. They were heading to the nearest adoption center that they could find, but unfortunately it still resulted in a huge journey across the seemingly endless rocky terrain. Rainurr was very nervous and stayed close to the imperial for the entire flight...

After a day of travel, they had arrived. Rainurr had fallen asleep and was carefully brought inside and placed on a soft bed of cushions, which surrounded a thin pole. The spiral instinctively curled around the pole while still sleeping. As the snapper walked out, he felt a little bit of regret. He had the imperial place the Sky Lair a short way away on its side, near enough for Rainurr to visit, but far enough that it did not bother the dragons living within the adoption center.

"Why hello there, little one!" The curtains within the small room were snatched open by a slightly chubby pink skydancer. Rainurr was woken by the sudden loudness of her voice as the skydancer scooped her up into her arms.
"Welcome to the adoption center!" She exclaimed. The skydancer's gaze was warm but her positive voice faltered and she looked down. She didn't think there was much hope here for Rainurr. "Come along now, and meet the rest of the young'uns here."
Rainurr was carried into a slightly-bigger-but-still-cramped-room with five sad looking hatchlings. One was a guardian whose horns scraped slightly against the ceiling whenever he stood up.
"Be nice to her, guys. I need to go and buy some food." Said the skydancer, and she left Rainurr behind.
The guardian tilted his head. "Sooo, who are you?"
"Don't be so rude." Said a young yellow fae with a scar on their nose. "You're scaring her. I don't even think she can talk."
"I could stomp you into the floor if I wanted to," the guardian retorted.
"Go on and try. Your horns won't let you get anywhere in here without you banging into something."
Rainurr had never heard a fae speak before. It was so... monotone?
The guardian hissed and stuck his head out of a huge window that she suspected had been made for larger dragons like him.
