Etra was a member of Clan Kairi in The Scarred Wasteland until 5/23/15.

Not much is know about her past. She was born in the Starfall Isles, but left no ties of her own during her travels. She doesn't talk about her past at all, preferring to live in the present. All her present clan mates know is that at some point she ended up in The Scarred Wasteland, living with a clan in the Lesser Lair of the Wandering Contagion. She wasn't very happy in the Plaguelands, but inexplicably stayed there for a very long time. Perhaps it was a secret experiment for the Arcanist?

The clan, made up of many older, experienced dragons, never really worked together well and did not flourish in the Plaguelands. Perhaps too many of them were from other lands. Perhaps their leadership was to blame. Perhaps it was simply destiny come calling. In any case, their leader, an Arcane dragon named Verin, decided that there was no point for them to remain together. On the 23rd day of the fifth month of 2015, he called together his Elder dragons and advised them that they all needed to find new homes immediately.

Shocked and disoriented and starving, the dragons had nowhere to go. A number of them banded together to journey in search of new clans, while a few opted to go off alone and take their chances in the world. The group traveling together (Gin, Seira, Isis, Melasune, Etra, and Gaia) found refuge in Clan Diamond Dust, an Ice clan that harbored Elder dragons. The clan leaders there were a bit perplexed to have so many dragons seek shelter in clan at once. A few dragons staying with Clan Diamond Dust for the clan's training program were asked to leave immediately to accommodate the band of homeless dragons. Fortunately, they cheerfully went to serve the Icewarden, knowing their spaces were going to a good cause.

While Clan Diamond Dust welcomed them with open arms, a few of the dragons knew that they were only staying there temporarily -- they still needed to find another clan to call their own. Etra was one of the dragons who petitioned the clan leaders to stay. While she didn't know that she wanted to make the clan a permanent home, she did know that she didn't want to find herself starving again, searching for a safe place to stay.

Etra is a master magician, preferring to be called an "arcanist." While the clan had various other arcane and magic-using dragons, Etra took on the role officially and was the first dragon called when magic was needed in the clan. She dug out her own lair, physically isolating herself from the rest of the tribe, and added rooms to conduct magical experiments. The physical isolation was only to keep her clan mates safe from any side effects - she was actually quite fond of her new clan and often shared meals with them (in their lairs or the common rooms). Etra was careful to avoid the subject of her past, preferring to hear the clan gossip or learn more about the other dragons' roles. The clan leaders privately worried about what secrets she might be keeping, but Etra was careful to provide them with regular updates on her experiments and what magic she had performed for clan mates

Since arriving in the clan, Etra has also started dabbling in the branch of magic known as alchemy. It's mostly harmless - or so she says - but there are colorful piles of mysterious goo, ooze, sludge, slime, and muck in her lab. Occasionally she'll bring a new familiar or apparel item to the clan but doesn't go into detail how it was created.

Given the amount of time she started dedicated to brewing, Etra soon became overwhelmed with requests from clan members who needed her magical assistance. Finally, in the middle of summer '15, the clan brought in a dragon - Ezreal - who would take over the alchemy and transmutation experiments. Etra was relieved at getting the extra help, but she maintained a wary acceptance of the new dragon. She didn't quite trust him, although she couldn't pinpoint anything specific in his words or actions causing this suspicion. Still, she decided to be cautious in her dealings with him - better safe than sorry, especially when dealing with fellow magicians.

1st place for Potion #6

Category: Test 6
Naturalist Adornments

Potion here:
Wildwood Moss Redwood Log Heatherbed Lily Smolderpetal Sunrise Hibiscus Fragile Antler Pale Roundhorn Ensorcelled Volume Green Ooze

Note: This potion requires the highest quality ingredients available - any impurities and the potion will fail.

Step 1: Add green ooze as catalyst - the ooze will also add coloration to the horns later in the process and will help hold the moss together.

Step 2: After 32 minutes exactly, add the horns and antlers. This timing must be precise in order for the horns and antlers to meld together properly as the ooze must be at exactly the right stage.

Step 3: After 2 hours, add the redwood log and moss. The neckpiece will begin to form.

Step 4: After 4 hours, add all of the flowers and the ensorcelled volume. This enchanted book's magic will preserve the flowers.

Step 5: After 1 hours, remove the adornments from the cauldron and let sit for 48 hours before attempting to wear. If a dragon is impatient and doesn't wait the proper amount of time, it will fall apart.

Total time: 55 hours, 32 minutes

Cryptid to Capture: Yeti
Concoction to Create:
Incorporeal Dinner
Correlation of Concoction to Cryptid: Picnic you say? Of course food will lure a yeti out of hiding. Although there are many sub-species of Yeti, an incorporeal diner will most likely net you a Coarsefur Yeti, as the natural version is one of its favorite foods in its primary hunting grounds of the Boreal Woods. This version, however, includes some enhancements to boost its scent and increase your chance of seeing the elusive creature.

Ingredients:
Turkey Dinner x 1 Ghostly Aura x1 Unstable Serthis Concoction x1 Strange-smelling Vellum x2
Fragrant Orchid x1 Turkeywing Seashell x5

INSTRUCTIONS and NOTES:

Step 1: Place the Turkey Dinner in the Cauldron and reheat it. Fortunately, it's already cooked so this step only takes 30 minutes.
Step 2: Add in the Ghostly Aura and Unstable Serthis potion. Simmer for 5 hours. This step will start the incorporealization process.
Step 3: Add the Strangle-smelling Vellum and Fragrant Orchid. Boil rapidly for 15 minutes. This will enhance the potency of the small of the finished dinner. Don't worry - the rotting meat smell will dissipate into something more appealing to the Yeti, although perhaps not to you.
Step 4: Add all of the Turkeywing Seashells into the mixture, after finely grounding them. This will act as a binding agent and allow the ghostly aura to join with the turkey dinner carcass. The mixture should brew for another 2 hours on low.

Additional step: Set up a picnic! Spread out your blanket, place the incorporeal dinner in the center, and then retreat to nearby cover to see if the Yeti will be lured out by the smells of your delicious meal.

Copper Filigree Breastplate

Copper Spring Copper Gear Simple Copper Wing Cuffs Copper Muck Silver Muck Sizzling Phosphorus Molten Sludge Anticipate Ambush Haste Cat's Breastplate Wrinkled Azurescales White Aviator Scarf Tertiary Gene: Filigree

Instructions and notes

This is rather straightforward, fortunately, except the part about magically imbueing it with the knowledge of unseen attackers.

1. Find whatever copper remnants and pieces your clan has laying around. Ore doesn't work very well for this recipe, so refrain from using it. Toss as much as you think will be needed to create a breastplate for whatever dragon you are outfitting.

2. Copper and silver muck go into the pot too.

3. Now, you need to get the cauldron VERY hot so the copper will melt. Sizzling Phosphorus will help, plus it adds some magical properties to the brew. It is recommended, however, that you also use Molten Sludge (or Sear, if you are a Fire dragon).

4. Now you wait. Once the ingredients are nice and melty, you can move to the next step.

5. Here's where dragons get into trouble - add the magical ability, the base, or both? This recipe's preference is that you add the ingredients that will imbue the breastplate with the ability to detect unseen attackers: Anticipate, Ambush, and Haste. This is the step most likely fail, rendering the brew useless. When you feel it's ready, you can move to the next step. Unfortunately, it make take a couple - or a couple dozen - times practicing this recipe before you reliably get this stage correct.

6. The hard part is over! Toss in your base, which the molten copper will form around. Recommendation: Cat's Breastplate or another similarly colored one from that product line. You may peek into the cauldron to determine when all the copper has finished clinging to this breastplate.

7. Now, for a few finishing flourishes: some Wrinkled Azurescales, one White Aviator Scarf to hold the dye, and one Tertiary Gene: Filigree. Wait 1/2 hour and pull out your finished armour!

It's recommended that you test the breastplate to ensure its range actually extends to 300 meters when sensing danger.
