G2 Talos Lineage

Pronouns: she/her
Orientation: Pansexual
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Parent: Talos
Mate: -
Occupation: WIP
Theme: xxx

The shadow of a king does stretch long for those that walk in his wake.

‘One day, little one, you will stand as tall and proud as your father.’ The voice is smiling and she recalls that her eyes are not yet open to know the face of this soul. ’And we cannot wait to see you shine.’

Enora’s tiny nose snuffles into the darkness, nostrils flaring as the soft crackling of both fire and her own egg shell fills her ears in her first moments of life. It is warm and whilst her own heart hammers within her chest, she knows that she is safe.

Moreso when a maw the size of her entire frame grasps her and carries her from her nest to the greater beyond that the mind of a baby could not yet grasp.

‘She is perfect…’ This deeper voice assures, low and comforting. ‘Little Enora; A name befitting of the first hatched. No?’

Little Enora.
Honour bound by blood.

In the moment, she does not know her name nor the lulling voice of her own father but in time, this fleeting first memory will fade into nothing but a tangent of distant but pleasant emotions that leave her light and warm inside.

So Enora, first of her name, merely sleeps in her fathers embrace.

════════════════════════════════════

Enora, with her head sunken low, kept her form curled into the shade of the regal courtyard that her father looked over. Enora’s claws curled into the dirt, scratching but the tiniest lines through bladed grass as the sun bore heavily down onto her siblings' hides, ahead.

There is a weight upon her back, invisible and unyielding.
It has held her down for as long as she could recall; with wings clung to her side, useless against the pressure and nostrils flaring to see her through each pulse that coursed her tiny form.

As a child, this monster had no name but it lurked in the darkness with her.
Dark scales made for excellent camouflage, after all.

Soft crimson eyes gaze upwards to the looming figure of her father, dressing in finery with that pleasant smile upon his maw as he merely watches the three of them from his own spot of warmth; a soft heat that she did not feel as quiet dread swept her form in small but nasty waves.

To the world, Talos was grandiose and noble but to Enora’s small form, he was merely… tall.

His head was the size of her body in length now though she was growing fast and she had teeth that could, at least, pierce his hide enough to draw a single droplet of blood if she or her siblings aimed to play roughly enough with him.

“What is wrong, Enora?” Talos’ voice, quiet, snaps her from her thoughts as she blinks sharply; eyes owlish and wide.

That pressure pops for the moment being and Enora seeks shelter beneath her fathers wing for comfort that he never fails to provide.

“Nothing, Pa. Just… thinkin’.” She mumbles, nosing her face into the fine furs of his legs. “It’s warm today and Aliza an’ Chlothar play too rough…”

A low rumble courses through Talos’ form and rattles Enora’s; it’s pleasant and soothing, her eyes shutting that bit further as once more, a sensation of safety blankets her.

“I will talk to them.”

════════════════════════════════════
“She cannot shy away from her tasks or duties forever.”

“She is young! Barely an adult.”

“But sir, both Aliza and Chlothar have already excelled in their tutoring and–...!”

“Enough. She will improve with time, I am confident.”

════════════════════════════════════

Maybe that gnawing sensation, that oppressive force, was the weight of failure…

Curling her way through the darkened corridors, Enora’s teeth grit and gnash as her nostrils flare and eyes burn.

Truly, she was no warrior nor a scholar.
She lacked social skills at the best of times and as she was growing, her limbs saw themselves trip over each other at the worst and most inopportune times.

A snort escaped her maw, head turning away into the dark as those hot tears escaped; dripping onto cobbled stone.

Oh, how her father must see her.
The lone child that had no skills or talents; that had no place in the world or among these shining walls of gold and white.

How could she live up to his expectations when she could barely live up to her own name?

With the shadows of Light’s domain at her back, the sky did beckon her away and as the night crawled over her skin, it whispered tales of how she did not belong.

This world was not meant for her.

════════════════════════════════════
“Have you seen Enora this morn…? I’m afraid that I cannot find her.”

“Sorry, my lord, I have not.”
════════════════════════════════════
There was no honour in fleeing but with the invisible beasts at her heels and her own heart in her maw, wild and unhinged, it felt the only option to escape.

There was no logic nor thought given as the wind warped and thrashed around her, wings carrying her further and further until the muscles gave out and her limbs once more touched the ground to seek rest.

To seek safety under the warmth of-
Oh.

She was not home any more.
The world was before her in all it’s might; arms wide and screaming to be embraced.

Enora’s heart remained thrumming, threatening to explode if she did not slow down and breathe. The tears that she had quelled hours and hours before began clawing at her eyes in an aggressive threat of returning.

Slumping down into the tangled woods of umber and blue, Enora’s head tucked downwards to her chest. Soft sobs of distress broke the eerie silence of the Shadowbinders domain, unaware of unblinking eyes and chittering echoes in the distance that could spell trouble for the Imperial if ever it grew too close.

For the slow seconds that ticked by, all Enora could feel was her chest retching and her lungs struggling with every wheezing inhale.

Sneering whispers told lies of abandonment, betrayal and disappointment.

Oh, how easy it is to listen to the hissing purr at the back of her ear that, with confidence, told her of the time wasted on her, how no father would ever see this child in the light nor would the loss be truly missed.

One burden less, right?
We may as well let the Foxfire Brambles consume us for we are worth naught more than mulch for corrupted lands.

════════════════════════════════════
With glowing red hues, Rowan did lurch forwards; almost stumbling to keep up after the mint green Coatl that broke her way through the narrow spaces of the underbrush.

“Vaiki-...! Vaiki, would you slow down for a second, please?” The Imperial grunted, forcing his way past fallen branches and hindering vines after his mute mate who had merely stopped to glance back at him in exasperated questioning as if to ask: Why are you taking so long?

“Come on, you cannot expect me to keep pace in this hellish forest…!” He grumbled, exhaling heavily through his nose as he gave Vaiki a small bump to her shoulder. “Why’re we this far out anyways?”

The last time they took a wayward stroll through the forest with the Seer leading, it ended up resulting in a week spent within the healers alcove and a severe scolding from Dusk.

As usual, his questions were met with silence but undeterred, he followed the Coatl’s lead unwavering. Despite her inability to talk, when Vaiki had something to say or show, it was foolish to ignore.
════════════════════════════════════
A sharp crack of wood and deep rumbling drew Enora from her despair. Sorrow gave quick ways for fear as her own soft crimson eyes snapped upwards, scanning the darkness and the horizons only to be met with nothing but the terror inducing sounds of movements.

Every inch of her senses were on high alert as she stood, head low and legs trembling. The skylight was obscured by thick treeline; a decision that she had thought clever at the moment but now hindered her escape…

Would it be worth trying to run or hide?
She could not tell.

Only by the time her legs gave decision, the rustling was at her feet and her fate was keenly accepted before naught more than a Coatl stumbled out with foliage clung between feathers and bandages wrapped around her maw.

There were seconds of relief, her chest releasing the nasty clawed grip it as she drew in a steadying breath; though that was knocked out of her when glowing eyes met her own on level. Following the eyes was an ichor clad warrior of blue and red that almost seemed just as shocked to see her as Enora was him.

“Oh. Uh–...”
════════════════════════════════════
“We really didn’t mean to scare you but certainly glad we found you. It’s not entirely safe this far into the Foxfire Brambles. Got lots of tales of the Veilspun kidnapping people, Noc’s that apparently will eat you alive an’ all that.” Rowan offered a wry smile as his Coatl companion languidly coiled onto his back much akin to a snake would settle beneath its hide. “Even a couple o’ tales of Wraiths haunting the shadows.”

“It’s… fine. Uh, thank you.” Soft and broken words as Enora numbly put faith in a stranger.
She had no reason to but then again, this darkness was new and so much different from the darkness that plagued her.

She yearned for the return of home but with each step away, that darkness receded just a little.
It did not ebb the guilt away for leaving without note nor message but it made it bearable enough to live with.

Her siblings would fill the void that she had left and nobody would miss her given enough time to balm the wound.

Those shadows would tell her that she had no place among them anyways.
════════════════════════════════════
It was the wings of an older Guardian that ended up taking her in.

Enora would wager that, maybe, she was as old as her own father and had a smile that was just as warm. There was a kindness to Dusk that did not permit the shadows to be hellish under her watch and that offered just enough fresh air for Enora to breathe.

There were no expectations, no light searing her heart. There was no honour among Plague nor Shadow and no royalty to see her suffocated beneath.

For once, there was just Enora.
Just her own thoughts, her own wants and needs.

════════════════════════════════════
“You never did say why you came to us, little one.” The Guardian muses, her grey tones basked in the starlight next to Enora’s own. “Only that your shadows haunt you and we can all see the anguish behind your eyes. The others dare not upset you but you have been with us for a little over two weeks and said barely a word.”

The silence that follows deafens Enora who can only stare at her claws as that shame bubbles up in her chest and stomach. She can no longer clearly recall the faces of her siblings after the weeks apart but her fathers own is still as clear as the sun is bright.
“If you do not wish to tell me then I wont press but know that I have seen many broken souls among both clans I walk between. If it is council you seek, I can offer you sage words. If you require time and space to recover from whatever ails you then we can offer you refuge.” Dusk's snout presses to Enora’s side and it’s maternal nature is suffocating.

“But you have to tell us what you need or we cannot help.”

Gazing out, Enora cast her glance to the precipice of where Plague and Shadow mingled in a virulent dance of death and darkness alike. How strange that these two domains harmonise and blend into one another…

How peculiar was it that these two clans that she would have once deemed immoral and corrupt were the soft hands that were guiding her through her days.

Why had she not summoned the strength to return home…?
She did not belong here…
════════════════════════════════════
Day cascades quickly and quietly into night on a droning cycle, and with every hour that passes it gets that bit harder to return; an unspoken time limit, a threshold already surpassed.

She could not return now.
Not after so much time had already passed.

Would they care for her return?
Please…
════════════════════════════════════
Wings clamber forwards out of the enlarged hole that connected the clan of shadow and the clan of plague. Goat eyes peer upwards at the Imperial, silent in their questioning but far from prying.

Instead, the Banescale passes by with a pleasant smile and a greeting.

She doesn’t ask his name the first time he does this nor the second or third but it becomes routine and almost… comforting. Each day, close to noon, the black Ancient would crawl from the dirt and wish her well without even knowing her before continuing his day.

Of the first time she offers greetings back, his barred eyes go wide before a broad grin recovers the shock; offering warmth and well wishes once again.

It was only by one of his companions did his name be known.

Vishnu,
Son of the Righteous Storms.
════════════════════════════════════
“Enora is a lovely name. Means ‘Honour’, doesn’t it?”

“Mmh.”

“Hey, no judgement. You’re speaking to ‘Protector’ Vishnu. Guess we both don’t live up to those names, huh…?”

“I am sure you live up to yours plenty, do not belittle yourself so.”

“Only if you abide by the same code, friend.”
════════════════════════════════════
The pressure that plagued her younger days is a smaller and distant memory that barely curls out of the box that Enora has found for it. It had teeth, she remembers, when she was younger but now, she barely feels it’s stinging bite at all.

There is weight to the back of her mind that tells her that she has left things unresolved but there is kinship with the misfits in the Clans of the Lost and the Bones.

There is no family but the ones they have found and it is… strangely wholesome in its own unique way.

A Mirror who called a Banescale son for no other reason that he was alone in a cruel world.

A Ridgeback who would never turn away a child in need regardless of their origin.

A Fae and a Mirror who, between them, never questioned their allies or friends…
Who trusted them implicitly with the life of their clan and the future of their survival.

Enora would not claim to understand.
She truly did not know what drove them to show such compassion but their scars told stories that she would likely never know.

All she understood was they shared the same unyielding kindness that her father often showed to others around him. The memories of softer illuminating eyes had not been shaken from her in the time she had spent apart.
════════════════════════════════════

“I miss you, dad.”

════════════════════════════════════
“Come with me, please…” The Imperials tone took a softer shade of pleading, unbefitting of someone her size and stature. “I can't go back alone…”

Vishnu’s attention flickered from his friend to the caverns behind him with a faint grimace. He was a herald of lightning but being above ground for too long made him jittery. “I dunno–... I really don’t think I’m the best person, ‘Nora. Your father sounds pretty intimidating and I am literally a tunnel gremlin at best.”

Oh, and with the pleading eyes too–
Vishnu whined, his head tilted back and upwards to the sky as Enora lowered her snout to level with his.

“I know you don’t like being away from here but I– I don’t know who else to turn to for this.”

“I-... I know you haven’t talked to her in a while but Dusk’ll probably go with you or Rowan or, well, anyone if you ask them.” Vishnu offers a pregnant pause before bumping his head against Enora’s shoulder, “And if worst comes to worst, I will go with you. Can’t let you wander off alone and get lost in the forest or something, y’know…”
════════════════════════════════════

“I have always kept watch of you under the moonlight, I am blessed to do so under the light of day too, little one. It is well beyond your time to cure your broken heart.”

════════════════════════════════════
To return to the childish darkness that held her fear at a knife point was no small feat even with a Guardian on one side and a Banescale at her other.

Her demon roared at the last steps upwards to the now smaller domain that her father kept; a name finally given to the beast that plagued her.

Her own self worth sneered in her face as her anxieties prickled with their hackles raised. The hostility of her own mind caused her legs to freeze and her body to seize up. She couldn’t do this, it had been too long.

He wouldn’t remember who–

“Enora..?”

Ice dropped down her spine as her eyes widened and glanced upwards to the ever-radiant figure of her loving father; confusion and disbelief mixed violently across his face as he took small steps towards the younger Imperial.

“Father. I-...” Her voice caught in her throat, ears pressing back as her form felt child-like once again under his scrutiny. The briefest of touches to her side caused her unwavering gaze to shift across to the maternal Guardian who offered a faint smile and a small nudge forwards.

If she cared to look back as she approached, those warm hues of blue shifted to a sharp sting of judgement; keen and watching. Regardless of blood, this child was one of Dusks and the tentative situation was plenty for her own hackles to bare at the world.

════════════════════════════════════

“We had thought you-...”

“I am sorry…”

“Whatever for?”

“I wasn’t good enough for you. I-... I wasn’t Aliza or Chlothar.”

“No, you weren’t but you never needed to be, Enora...”
════════════════════════════════════
“Your father loves you a great deal.” Dusk hummed, walking alongside the Imperial as they made a slow return to the decaying lands of Plague and Shadow alike. “Do you feel better for shedding that burden from your shoulders…?”

“Somewhat, yes. I did not think he would be so keen nor happy to see me.” Enora sighed out a breath of relief, muscles aching from tensions of the day and the exhaustion that was beginning to settle bone deep. “Or that he would be accepting of me both returning to visit him and returning home with you both.”

A murmur of amusement bubbled up from Vishnu, “Well, I dont think it’s that he’s okay with it and more that Dusk didn’t give much of a choice. We’re not exactly the most appealing of companions.”

“Speak for yourself, young Vishnu, and remember your manners.” The Guardian scowled, “I am both older and wiser than both your parents combined.”

A faint bubble of laughter escaped Enora’s maw, a little breathless and light in nature. How peculiar indeed that it took the darkest parts of Sornieth to show her that the shadows she had been trying to hide from were her own?
