Before you see him you may easily assume that his name is in reference to snap melons due to his heritage. However, once you see the ice covering his wings, face, feet, and tail, it becomes quite apparent that his name comes from the cold snap he hatched during.
He shouldn't have lived. Frost had practically obliterated the hatchling. Even now it's a miracle that he's alive at all, as the frost that still clings to him chills him to his core, and he struggles to keep warm enough to even stay functioning.
As an adult, he cannot leave the farm. The cold becomes unbearable, That being said, he says that he doesn't think it would kill him, but he worries about what he would become. The way he speaks of his condition doesn't make much sense, and can only cause his family worry. Worry that there's something more plaguing him than just frost...
