______________
Indalore was born marked by magic, to her mother's delight (and envy). Lakeisha took her on as a student before she'd even come to adulthood, and she excelled at everything she turned a claw to. Her primary interest eventually settled on the field of mutations, and she performed a number of experiments that involved exposing creatures to various concentrations of magic and otherworldly energies. When the ancient aberration breed was discovered, however, she was immediately fascinated by the possibilities. Here was a proven and reproducible draconic mutation, and after a ferociously intense period of study she developed a procedure for achieving a similar effect by means of carefully blended elemental essences. Although she'd always avoided personal exposure in her earlier experiments, she saw relatively little risk and much to gain from undergoing this particular transformation herself. The trial was an unqualified success, and Indalore is now a very satisfied two-headed mutant.

Indalore is a "two-fer" rather than a single mind or a full split—her second head is capable of perception and processing, but it functions in parallel with the primary one and doesn't contain an entirely separate consciousness. She has theories about why she hasn't developed a second independent mind (the lateness of her transformation, perhaps, or the inherent differences between radiation and pathogens), but she's still puzzling over the nature of that other awareness, which occasionally provides her with enigmatic dreams or unlooked-for inspirations.

In any case, Indalore continues her experiments, which now include dabbling with other, more minor mutations. The most recent is the development of adhesive toes and fingers, which lets her slink about on walls and ceilings. The sudden sound of her voice from above has drawn a start of alarm (and on occasion a shriek) from more than one dragon; she thinks this is hilarious.

In addition to a wicked sense of humor, Indalore has little respect for anyone, even Lakeisha. (Lakeisha grudgingly tolerates this for the sake of her brilliance.) She's cheerfully insolent and basically does whatever she wants. Although not actively cruel, she lacks empathy and basically sees other dragons as entertainment and providers of things that she needs. As long as this doesn't bother you, she's reasonably pleasant to be around. She might even be helpful, if the mood strikes her.

The other pack members' reactions to her transformation vary. Whisp thinks she's almost unbearably cool, while her father, Liast, finds it extremely weird and has no idea what to say to her now, but fortunately she rarely seeks him out. (She's more likely to go digging into the books herself.) Haruul is completely skeeved out, while Laiaka finds her disturbingly hot but tries not to think about that too much. For the most part, however, the pack just accepts it. This is the Starfall Isles, after all, and they dwell in the stronghold of a powerful mage. Strangeness is more or less to be expected.

»Andor hates her with an incandescent, icy-hot fury, while she treats him with gleefully mocking disdain. He's sworn to himself that he'll destroy her someday.

»An unexpected side effect of her change is that bugs are now delicious and her absolute favorite food. She's also taken to fruits and vegetables, to the point where Shanneira, after much yelling, has sighed, surrendered, and created a separate garden area just for her, to keep her from ravaging the rest of the plots.
