Cadeyrn checked to make sure his head wrap was in place; this would be the twenty-sixth time since he entered the market. Typically the odd jobs he performed were at night, like finding lost pets that didn't make it back for dinner. There seemed be no limit to the absurd things people suddenly remembered they needed to take care of well past bedtime.

He would never have even ventured out into the crowded marketplace except a note was left at the entrance of where he'd been staying: I know who you really are. Meet me at the market at noon or I will reveal all.

Cadeyrn had been so careful, even wearing the head wrap while he slept! How was he discovered?

"So ugly!" Someone exclaimed nearby.

He immediately closed his eyes, checked the head wrap, and considered running away.

"Do we have any ugly awards to give?"

Cadeyrn opened an eye and saw two Pearlcatches looking at a lineup of melons. One of them had an armful of ribbons. They weren't talking about him. It was going to be okay.

Looking around, he spotted someone staring at him. Their eyes met and the male snapper indicated Cadeyrn should approach.

"Are you the one who left the note?" He asked quietly, wondering how this complete strange learned of his lineage.

"That I am." The snapper confirmed. "I know you've been sneaking around at night, wooing the ladies, and thievin' things."

The relief Cadeyrn felt caused him to start laughing. It had nothing to do with his lineage.

"You think your crimes are funny?" The snapper raised his voice.

A female Imperial suddenly stepped between them. "There you are! I've been looking for you!' She told him, her voice seemed to be filled with laughter and music. To the snapper she said, "This fellow isn't who you're looking for."

The snapper looked confused for a moment and then nodded. "My mistake," he mumbled before walking off.

Cadeyrn blinked in disbelief at how quickly the situation was diffused. "Thank..."

The Imperial brought her face close to his. "Are you really from the legendary ugly lineage? Your eyes are so pretty!"

He froze, unable to move or breathe.

"Relax, Festerfell will accept you regardless. Come see us sometime!" She left, quickly disappearing into the crowd.
