Always Better in the Telling
The son of Light and Shadow and born of Lightning himself, he found himself constantly balancing between this path and that: the pursuit of knowledge, the joy of chaos, and the wanderlust which was his wind-born grandsire's legacy. Finding no joy in his work, he left the Shifting Expanse. He flitted from lair to lair, here and there, lending a helping claw when he could in return for food and shelter, then moving on again before he could outstay his welcome. As he worked - fishing one day, holding fabric for a seamstress the next - his peers would tell him stories to pass the time. How their clan came to be, how they joined it. Legends and myths about the deities, the Shade, the ghost of the Emperor who once inhabited their lair. Tad began to collect the tales. Now, settled quite by surprise in Ista Weyr, he tells those stories to his own clan. Everything he learned on his travels, passed on to the hatchlings in the morning, the Council in the evening. It certainly isn't the life he expected, but he finds himself rather enjoying it. At first, he was worried about stepping on Kotissa's toes, but they've found something of a balance between them. They've even begun to pen an epic or two between them, bantering the lyrics back and forth when they find themselves working together. Friendly and outgoing, most dragons seem to get along with Tad. He has a talent for putting people at ease, and unlike the resident charmers Lorrigan and Heyes, he does it with an air of such innocence that it's hard to rebuke him. After so long on the road, Tad also appreciates when someone needs space inside their own head, and is perfectly happy to launch into tale after tall tale just to provide some background noise. After all, they aren't really ignoring him, so why should he be insulted? Tarel, in particular, has come to appreciate this habit, and even deigns to flick his tail over Tad's shoulder in greeting, an honour that no one else in the clan is afforded. When not amusing the clan with new stories and tales, he works the forge with Ramoth and Helkath. He finds that there's something peaceful about the rhythm that forging involves. He spends hours on end shaping each item carefully and lovingly, whether weapon or tool. If he allows his mind to drift a little into the worlds and legends of his own stories, well. Who's to know? |
