Lore

. Thea's breathing was ragged and harsh. She clawed at the irradiated green grasses and tiny twigs beneath her paws. Her blood roared in her ears, deaf to the whispers of the starwood forest and the soft paw steps of an approaching dragon.

It wasn't until the wind shifted, carrying his scent, that she was alerted to his presence. Ears stiff, nostrils flared, lips drawn into a snarl; Thea rounded on the male Tundra that approached her.

His crimson eyes gleamed and his lips fell into an easy smile. His purple mane, streaked with shades of gray and royal purple, ruffled gently to the breeze. He stopped in his tracks and spoke, "Easy there Thea. You know I won't harm you. Are those-?"

Thea spat, "Get out of here Cupido."

He tilted his head slightly. "They're starting to float away."

A startled gasp erupted from Thea. She scrambled to turn on her paws and pounced on the two floating purple orbs. Her body carefully landed to avoid crushing the two arcane eggs into the grass and dirt. Thea trembled as she carefully turned her head to look at Inexorabilis'Cupido. She hissed, "Not a word to any dragon about this...!"

A low hum from Inexorabilis'Cupido answered her. "I'm not a fool. But neither is our... illustrious... Matriarch. She would ensure those two never see the light of day."

Thea flinched and drew herself tighter around the two eggs. "I... I know. Great Mother above, I'm terrified Cupido! What do I do?!"

Inexorabilis'Cupido cautiously padded closer and sat down on his haunches. "You could send them away. Adopt them out once they're hatched."

"Never," spat Thea.

A long sigh responded to Thea's fury. Cupido rolled his shoulders before he shook out his mane. "You know they can not stay with you. The Matriarch would hold them over both yours and Ladarius's heads, wretched Skydancer she is."

Thea carefully lifted her right forepaw to look at the two eggs. The gentle purples and violets that swirled in a nebulous cloud. She tucked the two eggs closer to her chest and shook her head to the negative. "I can't, you're the only other soul who knows right now."

Inexorabilis'Cupido rumbled, "So Ladarius doesn't even know?"

Thea shook her head and hid her face in her paws. "I only just laid them yesterday. I can't stray and have only been able to get these pitiful grasses for nesting... I'm just grateful that no one comes to this part of the Forest. Well... except for you it would seem. He... Ladarius might've noticed my absence. But he has enough sense to not rush about in a panic to alert the Matriarch or Great Mother forbid the Patriarch."

Inexorabilis'Cupido murmured, "I can bring him here discreetly. If he is the sire, he might have a suggestion to help you. No, he has a responsibility to help you. I will return with him at nightfall."

Thea raised her head a little from her paws. "Wait, Cupido. I don't-"

Inexorabilis'Cupido plucked a large basin leaf that held a decent amount of rain water. He offered it to Thea. Cupido rumbled, "A simple thank you will suffice. Drink, rest. I will be back with Ladarius."

The hours that it took for night to fall were the longest Thea ever experienced. She flinched at every branch snap, and curled around her rough nest tighter. At last, the first light of the moon broke through the starwood canopy. A mix of relief and trepidation fell over Thea when she smelled Inexorabilis'Cupido and Audens'Cor Ladarius approaching on the wind.

The vibrant crimson mane of Ladarius flashed between two starwood trunks. His form materialized in full after Inexorabilis'Cupido rounded a large starwood tree.

Thea was trembling. She looked between Ladarius and Cupido before finally settling on Ladarius.

Ladarius approached her cautiously. His violet gaze widened only slightly when she flinched in on herself tighter. Thea couldn't help herself. Her nerves were on fire and every fiber of her being told her to protect the eggs. She bared her fangs and a low growl erupted from her chest.

"Easy," soothed Ladarius, "It's only us Thea. We weren't followed. Why are you here? Are you injured?"

Thea tossed a questioning look at Cupido. The Tundra male only rolled his shoulders and sauntered away to the edge of the clearing. His stance made it clear that he was on look out.

Thea returned her gaze to Ladarius. She was fighting back tears as everything began to crash in on her. Her voice trembled, "I'm not injured. Come closer Ladarius... You need to see this..."

He stepped closer and Thea felt her nerves beginning to relax when he gently brushed his snout against her left cheek. She shifted and lifted away her forepaws to show the two eggs she was hiding.

The clearing was silent. Thea looked up at Ladarius, to try and discern what was going through his mind. His eyes were unusually wide, and his posture was stiff. He swallowed, before shaking out his mane. His violet eyes fell on her in full focus and softened. He asked gently, "Ours?"

Thea nodded to the positive. "Yeah... It's why I didn't return to the cave yesterday... I... Ladarius, I'm... I'm scared. What do we do?! If... If the Matriarch ever found out...!"

Ladarius answered, "She is only a usurper."

Thea growled, "Ladarius she already tried to use me to get to you! It would be catastrophic if she used these little ones!"

Ladarius rumbled gently, "She won't get the opportunity. She won't even know these two are ours."

Thea spat, "I'm not giving up my babies! Other clans would only exalt them!"

Ladarius cast a confused glance toward Inexorabilis'Cupido. The Tundra only returned an amused grin. Ladarius settled down before Thea and kept his tone gentle.

"Thea," said Ladarius, "I never said to give them away to a different clan. I only meant that we can slip them into a nest in the nursery. Thea, listen to me, Leanne is nesting right now. She is going to lay a clutch any day."

Thea stared at Ladarius, flabbergasted. "Your sister is nesting? Truly?"

Ladarius blinked with a glimmer sparkling in his gaze. "I'd never jest about something this important. What better way to hide these two than with their own kin? They would smell like Leanne's nest. Leanne and I share many similarities and any differences physically could be attributed to genetic variation. The usurpers would be none the wiser. Cornelius's lineage is an enigma so he would be the perfect surrogate father."

Thea covered the eggs again. Her heart began to hurt when a realization dawned on her. "But... these two... They would never be able to know that you and I are...?"

Ladarius nudged Thea's cheek with his snout. He then licked her fur between her eyes in a comforting gesture. "We could only behave like an affectionate aunt and uncle around them... to keep up the pretense and protect them."

Thea whimpered. "But..."

Ladarius nuzzled Thea before he rested the crown of his head on hers. The gentle, ringing clack of their antlers colliding was a soothing sound to them both. "The night is fading fast," Ladarius rumbled, "Thea... if anything does happen and these two are discovered to be ours... I want you to take them and run as far away from Sanguinem Luna as you can. That is our contingency plan. I would die before I let the usurpers even touch a hair on our children."

Inexorabilis'Cupido rumbled, "Time's up. We need to move quickly. Both of you grab an egg and let's get to the nursery."

Spurred into motion by Cupido's words, Thea and Ladarius both grabbed an egg. With eggs carried gently between their jaws, the young mother and father trailed behind the older Tundra to sneak back into the Crystal Spire.

The Pantheon Age
Thea was not hatched in this bygone era.

The New Age
Hatched in this era, Thea can trace her origins to the Southern Icefield. Given the impracticality of her earth tone pelt in a snowy wasteland, she can not blame her parents for casting her out. Whoever they were. She was young when she found herself on her own and subject to the mercy of any traveling stranger that took pity on her. She was small for a Gaoler hatchling, malnourished and desperate for anyone to show her a little bit of kindness. Later on in her life she attributes her desperation to the dark path she walked for her adolescent and early adult years.
She did not have the luxury of a proper youth. Thea met Tenebris'Terra, the current Matriarch of Sanguinem Luna Clan, when the Skydancer queen was traveling abroad for a mission as an Angel of Rebirth. Thea was awestruck by and grateful to Tenebris'Terra when the Skydancer took the time to feed and subsequently invite Thea to join her. At the time Thea had no clue what she signed up for. She became Tenebris'Terra's assistant, a rare rank in the Cult of Rebirth known as an "Agent." Agents are a specialized rank that are trained for covert operations to recruit candidates for Ascension within the cult and any manner of tasks that their superior demands. Thea served Tenebris'Terra for a long time, long enough to earn the Skydancer's trust.
However as Thea grew older, she began to notice the actions of the other Gaolers of Sanguinem Luna more and more. Especially Audens'Cor Ladarius, who was Tenebris'Terra's sworn enemy. Thea was baffled by Ladarius' refusal to obey and yet found his steadfast instinct to protect attractive. It was difficult for her to summon the courage to approach Ladarius at first. It was tough for her to decide what to do because she longed for the camaraderie that Ladarius shared with the others of his pack. So Thea took to shadowing him when she had the time. During one of the times she shadowed Ladarius, she was caught by Taichi Hirano. He pulled her into the pack's midst. While Ladarius, Leanne, Cornelius, and Genkei were dubious of Thea's intent; Taichi was the one to deflect the pack's suspicions and ease Thea's nerves with humor. Although his jokes were at her expense. Thea was grateful as it granted her a chance at a new perspective. The pack told Thea of Tenebris'Terra's misdeeds and explained why they refused to acknowledge her as the Matriarch of the clan.
Won over because of the ghosts of her own misdeeds haunting her, Thea asked the pack what she could do. They told her to travel to the Southern Icefield to go through the trials to prove herself as an adult Gaoler. Upon her success, she earned the designation of Seeker because she wanted to return to Sanguinem Luna. Tenebris'Terra was not happy with Thea when she returned. Before the Skydancer could hurt Thea, Ladarius came to her defense. The action was enough to alert Tenebris'Terra to Thea's shift in loyalties. Which is why Thea is called a defector to the present day.
Thea remains the smallest of the Sanguinem Luna Clan's Gaoler pack, as she likes to call the little group she's now joined. She uses this to her advantage to be extremely sneaky whenever she is spying on Tenebris'Terra or any of the other members of the Cult. Her sharp mind earned her a place in the Astronomer's caste where she works to study how the ice element of her magic can affect the Arcane energies around her.
Nowadays Thea has become more accustomed to her pack and frequently seeks out Ladarius for his company. She does her best to help him toward freeing his father. Thea prays for the day that Ladarius no longer needs to protect a clan member from another. She fears that day is far off as she struggles to keep her babies safe without any dragons knowing that Ladarius and she have offspring. It would be incredibly dangerous for her babies if Tenebris'Terra discovered who they were.

Renegade Aviar
Dante the Renegade Aviar
Dante, despite appearances, is a softie. He would prefer to go for a glide than bother with fighting over some conflict. This doesn't mean he is incapable of fighting. It simply means that Dante is not as reliable of a battle companion in comparison to Ladarius's Familiar Valora. In fact, many in Sanguinem Luna think Dante is scared of the Serthis. One of Dante's favorite activities it seems is to race Thea and challenge her to gliding far distance off of the pinnacle of the Crystal Spire. Thea is more than happy to oblige and claims that it improves her own gliding endurance.
