Biography

Kirreth
Gravitic Gravitas
Lawful Good

PkKAmaj.png
Kirreth is one of those arcane dragons who immediately knew what sort of magic she was going to specialize in. No years of practice, study, and experimentation in different fields here. Kirreth instinctively found what she was good at, and never strayed from that path. Even as a hatching, she was forever floating away into the sky, unbound by the force of gravity. Increasing the pull of gravity came later, and was mostly only useful for slowing down anyone chasing her as she floated away with some magically-lightened pilfered treats.

Unfortunately, living constantly under low gravity did have a few side-effects. Her muscles never needed to fully develop, so she needs to wear a set of braces and supports so that she doesn't immediately collapse if the gravity around her ever returns to normal. But that's not a problem as long as she keeps the reduced gravity field up. And Kirreth has no intention of subjecting herself to the strength of gravity that the rest of Sornieth labours under.

It would get in the way of her research, anyways. Nothing's worse than days of work being wasted because you accidentally smashed it on the floor. But in Kirreth's lab, things simply drift slowly and safely to the floor — and that's only if she doesn't get around to levitating them back up to a useful height before they fall all the way down. It's rare to see her without a swarm of notes and diagrams floating around herself, and there's usually a few snacks and/or live specimens as well.

Those specimens are a constant sight for anyone who knows Kirreth. (And an occasional sight for everyone else, what with her habit of forgetting to lock the containment tanks.) For her study of genetics and evolution, she needs a lot of bugs. After all, when you're studying the effects of prolonged exposure to arcane radiation and altered gravity on those insects, you go through a lot of specimens. Though that might just be because she keeps eating them. With enough magical experimentation she's managed to get the bugs growing larger under reduced gravity, which will hopefully be a breakthrough in insect farming. She did try raising them in high gravity as well, but that just made the bugs too powerful.

She has yet to convince Allria to cultivate insects in a low-gravity environment, but Kirreth will not give up so easily. She's very serious about the potential of her research. Just as she is serious about everything. Even those who can't read fae crests have noticed that Kirreth never takes anything lightly. She's not demanding — her clanmates can slack off if they want to, but Kirreth never does anything without intending to do it properly. Even the smallest tasks will be done with the same gravitas as presenting a dissertation. While only other fae are susceptible to it, Kirreth has caused many minor bouts of panic by asking even the simplest questions with the same crest expressions as she would use to inform someone their house exploded. (Secretly, Kirreth finds this pretty funny.)

As she operates mostly off instinctive talent, Kirreth isn't very good with any magic other than her own gravitational skills. With a lot of effort she can understand a written scroll or something another mage is trying to show her, but even then she'd rather stick to her own gravity magic. Turning gravity sideways can solve most common problems anyways. Or if all else fails, just turn it off. Things tend to stop happening when they're floating in zero-g, giving her an opportunity to go get help.

Though more often than not it's Kirreth helping others. Making things lighter is useful for almost everyone. Construction, transporting heavy objects, even simple travelling if you're feeling particularly lazy. Just make sure you know how to put the gravity back to normal before you overshoot your target. Kirreth's magic does wear off after being outside her influence for a short period, but that's more than enough time to float out into the middle of the ocean. She can do heavy gravity on a time delay too, in case you would like to be at the bottom of the middle of the ocean.

She has worked with the clan's founder, Invernale, on occasion. Mostly by attempting to devise a scheme to attract a herd of Death's Head Stags to the island via gravity. The distance has proved to be a problem. If Kirreth is on the clan island, then she's much too far from the mainland to affect the stags. And trying to launch the creatures from somewhere on the mainland would be an impossibly unlikely shot. It's the same reason why she refuses to help Ashdar without any of his spaceflight projects. Not only would the magic likely run out before he managed to break free of the planet's gravity, but Kirreth has no idea how she get would him back down from space afterwards.

That goblet is carefully enchanted to resist Kirreth's magic around the rim. Thus even while it is floating around in anti-gravity the drink can't escape.
