Biography
ARTHEMIS
|
"Is that a
pigeon...? Wait, no—" - Arthemis to himself |
Introduction and Personality
When it comes to Arthemis, he's the most mysterious dragon you'll find in Regal's clan of oddities. He rarely, if at all, speaks to anybody; mostly keeping to himself. If anything, you'll see the Skydancer staring into the sky, as if waiting for something to happen; or as though he were trapped in a trance. He especially stares upwards when its nighttime, as he adores stargazing and observing the many stars littering the abyssal sky. Even when Arthemis does have the rare occurrence of speaking with someone else, it's rather short, as he'll easily get distracted by something and stare at it rather than the dragon talking to him; ending up in the dragon getting discouraged in speaking with him, therefore ceasing their conversation and moving on. Arthemis is considered odd among his group of companions, and doesn't exactly get along with anybody. However, he doesn't seem bothered by loneliness at all. In fact, it's almost as though he finds more comfort in stargazing than the social comfort of a fellow dragon. In other words, Arthemis is a rather content dragon, although is still seen as a rather strange individual. One could say there's always a mindless and indifferent air to him, giving dragons the impression that Arthemis isn't the most approachable guy around. He also isn't the most active dragon, despite his species of being a Skydancer. |
"I love
the moon... it lights up the night sky like a brilliantly shining star. It beckons me like a moth to the sun— though— I'm not sure why exactly..." - Arthemis to multiple dragons |
"To live
among the stars... what a dream come true that would be..." - Arthemis to himself |
Origin and Meaning of Name
Like the majority of the clans' members, Arthemis was found by none other than Regal. The Skydancer had been, of course, stuck in a trance staring at the sky whilst there was a storm brewing. Rain drops pounded the soil, and the dark, cloudy sky would roar with every bolt of electricity that ruthlessly stabbed the ground. Regal had lost track of Rufus when they were hunting, before the storm had formed and left the area dreadfully windy and soaked with water. The Tundra would call out for his familiar, yet to no avail, as the wind and thunder merely drowned out his cries. Though, if only out of the corner of his eye, he saw a lightning bolt crawl down from the sky and viciously strike a tree; setting it on fire. The now aflame tree swayed in the wind, and a strong draft began tipping the large pine over; snapping it from its roots. However, it seemed that underneath the falling tree was none other than Arthemis. Regal had noticed the lone Skydancer about to get crushed by the giant tree, and rushed over just in time to tackle the latter out of the tree's trajectory. Regal would scorn and yell at the Skydancer for being so utterly oblivious to the dangers of being out in the storm, having to slap Arthemis in order to get him to listen. After Arthemis had snapped out of his trance, he thanked Regal a million times; and also apologized a million times. From then on, Arthemis wanted to repay the kind Tundra for saving his life; deciding to join Regal's clan and serve it and its members. Arthemis even has—and is still—trying to become better about getting stuck in trances so often, or getting distracted so easily. He almost lost his life that day when Regal saved him, so logically, he doesn't want that happening ever again. As for where he came from or where he was born, Arthemis himself doesn't know, as he told Regal that he's lost the majority of his memories; making it difficult to discern exactly where this absentminded Skydancer came from. The meaning of Arthemis' name is rather different compared to his counterparts, as it refers to the Limenitis arthemis astyanax; more commonly known as the red-spotted purple admiral butterfly. Unlike his fellow clanmates, the meaning simply references Arthemis' appearance, as he sports black, blue, and orange for his colors; much like the red-spotted purple admiral. |
"My apologies...
but I honestly don't know how I even got here. To the Wastlands, I mean. I can't even recall where my birthplace is—it's bizarre" - Arthemis to Regal |
"Ow... ow!
I know, I know— now would you quit hitting me? I'm awake now, I swear" - Arthemis to Libra |
Familiar
Arthemis, like some of his fellow clanmates, has two familiars. These familiars include an Enchanted Libra and a Mischievous Magnifier. Both were gifted to him by one of the founders and a fellow clan member, more specifically Opulent and Lakota. One told Arthemis that, "You should keep this Enchanted Libra beside you so it can keep you out of danger! Since you get distracted all the time—or—so I heard from Regal." And another stated, "This familiar 'er was originally mine, but it seems like you need it more than I, friend. He'll help you regulate how much you stargaze, and keep you out of trouble. Keep 'em close to you, 'lright?" Since then, the grateful Arthemis has done what the kind Guardians had told him, keeping the two familiars close and taking great care of them. Since he gets caught in danger from sitting perfectly still rather often, he's come to shorten both familiars' names to Libra and Magni so he can call to his two beloved familiars much faster.
