While Callisto goes through his youth scared to stand out, for better or for worse, he realizes upon reaching adulthood that a life of mediocrity is no less frightening. Suddenly regretful about the lackluster study habits of his youth, he asks for and receives permission to travel to Sanitatem's sister clan, Polareis. He hopes to start over, prove himself, and do his parents proud at last.

His plans begin to slide out of place when he arrives to the lair near the Forbidden Portal. Assigned to keep Astatine company, he realizes quickly that his companion's memories don't line up with those of the rest of the clan. Concerned about her mental state, the healer's instincts he picked up from a youth spend in Sanitatem kick in.

He does his best to comfort Astatine, and gently correct her more alarming delusions. She grows to depend on him over time, trusting his word over her own mind. Realizing the power he accidentally holds, Callisto does his best to learn the history of the clan so he can direct her truthfully.

It's just that the more he learns, the more he wonders whether she's actually insane at all.
