To say Vidalia has sticky fingers would be an understatement. A lifelong thief by trade, she gains infamy as she travels from lair to lair, collecting a variety of valuables as she goes. Some of these jewels turn out to be cursed, but Vidalia isn't deterred in the slightest, continuing to fly from one clan's stockpiles to the next.

Upon arrival at the Cruxrose lair, she thinks at first that the rumors of treasure must have been exaggerated. There's some jewelry to be nicked, sure, but nothing that glitters brighter than what she already has. In a moment of carelessness, she is almost caught, and darts into a back den.

There, she meets Vythri. A drab and sad coatl by anyone's standards, Vidalia thinks at first that he must be terribly sick. But as she stays with him, waiting for her chance to escape, she talks to him. And as she talks to him, she learns the tragedy of his situation. A prisoner not even in possession of his own being, Vythri is considered by his fellow dragons more as a valuable experiment than a peer.

And so, of course it makes sense for Vidalia to want to steal him away.
