Biography

Mystere knew that his father, Fingunt, was not pleased to be at court. Not with how many enemies they had, including Mystere’s own grandmother, Eilevere. It didn’t help that Mystere had inherited his father’s fascination with fungi. He did, however, take etiquette lessons seriously so at least they couldn’t say he didn’t have perfect manners.

Mystere is clever, a trait that is common amongst the Thornlings. He is also well-educated (which, again, is not unusual for royals). His mother, Docere, is a teacher and she is knowledgeable on many things...including many political secrets. And she’d shared many of these secrets with her son. Mystere knew that this put him in a dangerous position, yet he also knew that it shielded him from some of the worst that could be done to him for no one knew exactly how much he knew.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mystere found himself in the library, seeking a moment of solitude away from the bustle of the court. While he'd learned how to play the "game" of the court's machinations, he still found the effort to fit in to be draining. He longed to return to his family's country estate where he could study away the afternoon in peace.
There didn't appear to be any other dragons in the library. Knowing that it wouldn't be considered proper were anyone around to witness his behavior, Mystere let out a frustrated sigh. He felt a headache coming on and dearly wished for a cup of tea to help soothe his nerves.
"Um...excuse me..." came a quiet voice from a nearby corner. Mystere turned to see a small Pearlcatcher female tucked into a chair in a hidden nook. For a moment he was captivated by her stunning pale pink eyes, but then he remembered himself and where he was. He also noticed that she'd continued speaking.
"....feeling alright?" she said, sounding concerned. She looked at his face briefly before quickly turning away, her face blushing slightly. She seemed unaccustomed to speaking with others confidently, which seemed like it might be problematic at a court such as this.
"I assure you that I will be fine. Thank you for your concern, your ladyship." He didn't recognize her, still being fairly new to court himself. He wasn't quite sure how to address her and hoped he had not offended her.
She seemed eager to stop talking with him and return to her book, making a polite excuse to end conversation, but Mystere found himself intrigued by this lady and wanted to get to know her better.
"What, may I ask, have you been reading? I'm always eager for new recommendations." After a slight pause, she began to talk about the book that she was holding, her enthusiasm growing as he showed genuine interest. She introduced herself as Nigma, a noblewoman who had grown up at court. The two spent the next hour discussing a wide range of literature and promised to meet at the library again tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mystere and Nigma fell in love. Neither felt particularly at home at court so they escaped to a secluded area in the Sunbeam Ruins where they both could spend time reading and writing away from the pressures of court. There they were blessed with their first clutch of eggs, which hatched as their first son and daughter.

Mystere made sure that his children were educated in the ways of court, as well as how to maintain awareness of shifting politics and avoiding subterfuge.
