Matchmaking involves meeting a lot of potential couples and singles looking for love. Getting to know each client intimately is crucial, so that dragons can be paired based on their shared interests, values and wishes. Merlin is an expert at this: many happy couples have been united under his guidance. But, once consultations are over, Merlin loves nothing more than to forsake dragon-kind completely and go tend his bee colony. His business manner and regular day-to-day personality could not be more different.

If not for his profession, Merlin would probably be content to spend his entire life alone with his bees. The bee colony provides the clan with both honey and a source of insects. He has no real desire for social contact and the others have had to accept that or risk his sharp tongue. The only exception to this is his family; Ene and his children come first, even before the bees or the clan.
