Calida | she/her | musician | young adult

As the sun's light glimmers across the wavecrests at day's end, a gentle voice echoes off the sheer rocky cliffs of Sunbeam Grotto. Calida sang before she spoke her first word, as her parents say, and music remains her most beloved, most instinctual form of communication to this day.

It was after Calida arrived to Sunbeam Grotto, though, that she ever considered picking up an instrument. She'd always felt her voice melded well with the airy tones of a panflute, but what use was playing an instrument that would steal away her breath? When a harp proved too tricky, Saturn offered Calida a traveler's discarded lute, and the idealistic young Skydancer soared to the high clifftops to practice her new craft.

Calida returned a few hours later, face flushed, to scour the Glittering Library for any books that might help her master more than the very basics. Saturn joined her for a practice session that lasted until well after the sun set over the Sea. Day after day, Calida strummed on the lute, sometimes accompanied by Saturn, sometimes accompanied by her own voice, but most times alone, brow furrowed as she dedicated herself to making sense of the lute's capabilities.

As time passed, Calida's talent improved, both on the lute and as it elevated her singing. She adorned her faithful instrument with swirls of paint borrowed from her cousin Aida to commemorate her continuing studies. Though she often performs for her clanmates after dinner, or even as part of a formal ensemble, she still practices high in the cliffs, allowing her voice to carry all through the clan.

Calida is an earnest and kind young dragon, eager to make her mark upon the world and upon her family tree. She holds the blessings of her family line close to her heart - literally, as her pearl-carved locket is a gift from her matriarch Sunset, and her enchanted seaflower necklace was woven by her grandmother Alcea. Calida is greatly involved with her family, often dropping off letters by the bundle for Sunbeam Grotto's couriers to disperse to her faraway relatives.

Out of nowhere, an unfamiliar Imperial comes up to Flavia and takes her by the arm, pulling her away from where she was standing near Themis. "You had a really great idea for the third day! Verdigris is setting everything up now, and she asked me to -" she stops short, her jaw dropping as she realizes who she's talking to.

"Oh my gosh! You're not Calida - you must be one of her sisters, the resemblance is too strong!" She shakes her head. "I'm so sorry...I must've confused you pretty bad! I'm Phoebe, and I'm helping host the reunion this year. If you see Calida, tell her to come find me, I really need to talk to her! Just...don't tell her I almost spilled the bean beetles, okay?"

Finally! Flavia flaps her wings lightly to carry her up to join her sister.

The sisters end up chatting for quite a while longer than a 'little bit,' but neither of them really mind! Calida reprises the lullaby, and Flavia is able to sing it with her all the way through.

She nearly choked on the chips in surprise when Calida stepped onto the stage. Calida floats up to the front of the stage and detaches her lute from her belt. She looks up into the audience, returning Flavia's encouraging gesture with a small smile. Though her voice is breathy and quiet, it carries easily through the clearing when she speaks.

“I’ve been working on this composition for awhile - I was hoping I’d get to perform it on the last day of the reunion, but this is an even better opportunity!”

She looks down at her lute as she begins to strum, and soon her melodious voice joins the sound of the strings to fill the clearing. The sound is fuller, richer than when it's carried over the sea breeze, thanks to the amplifying properties of the stage. It takes Flavia a second to recognize it - the song is a loose adaptation of their lullaby's melody, with Calida's own unique flair layered on top. It's a beautiful composition, and the entire audience is hushed when it ends, erupting in applause a second later.

Artemis and Brisa find their seats, managing to settle in an area not too far from the stage itself. As Verdigris concludes her speech Artemis elbows her niece, who turns to grin at the huntress in return. Dancing has always been the girl's greatest passion, and though her aunt may not really relate, she is still aware of Brisa's interests enough to know this opportunity was practically made for her.

After a string of acts - all of which Brisa spent fidgeting excitedly in her seat - she finally sees her chance. An opening, a lull in the dragons pushing forward, and eagerly she volunteers to go on stage next. As she is called upon, Artemis cheers loudly for her companion, brimming with pride as she watches the girl she watched learn and grow back home ascend the stage.

Brisa encourages Calida to strike up a happy, if rowdy, tune, and in no time at all her dancing has energized the audience. The silks she wear ebb and flow along with her movements, which are liquid-smooth themselves. Her beauty and grace mixes well with her fun-loving attitude, and soon enough the crowd is clapping along to her movements and joining in on the music. By the time Brisa finishes, she is winded, out of breath, but grinning from ear to ear, her eyes shining bright.

Gentle Firedawn signifies the coming of spring to the Noxfolly domain. With such an important role to fulfill, he tends to be quite busy during the earlier half of the year. Still, he tries his best to spend time with all of his children and has never been completely absent from any of their lives. Born to a Wind Clan, he likes to make sure his offspring know how to use their wings properly and many of them are excellent flyers as a result of his teachings. His parenting is of a lighthearted, caring nature and his children fondly remember the sweet scent of a spring breeze that always surrounds him.

Calm Soleil signifies the coming of fall to the Noxfolly domain. With such an important role to fulfill, she tends to be quite busy during the later half of the year. Still, she tries his best to spend time with all of her children and has never been completely absent from any of their lives. Having grown up in a Nature Clan, she enjoys teaching her children about the lands they live in and has great wisdom to share about each and every creature her little ones stumble across. While she is more firm in her teachings than her mate Firedawn, she has a calming aura and her hatchlings feel at ease in her presence. They all fondly remember the earthy scent of a fall breeze that always surrounds her.
