Almasi has been able to see ghosts since she was a hatchling. Viewed in her family as an exceptional talent, she was taught how to fight and exorcise unpleasant spirits. The more she learns, the more she realizes how helpless most other dragons are in the face of an unseen enemy. Viewing it as her solemn duty to protect less talented dragons, she trains even harder.

It's only by happenstance that she meets Larimar, an exalt scholar from the Shifting Expanse. Through her discussions with him, she begins to see another side of the afterlife: an honorable passing into the next set of duties. Realizing that the ghosts she clashes with are but a sliver of possibly, she resolves to work with him to find peaceable solutions before things get to that point. Some failed attempts leave her bound to a ghost she cannot shake, but they do get the hang of it eventually.

As they travel together, they grow closer. And now, their travels bring them to the Polareis lair, where there have been reports of a new haunting...
