Biography

MariNettle Originally Mari & Nettle

Part One: The incident
Once there were two dragons, living in plague territory. These two were Mari, and Nettle. Mari was a musician, of sorts, while Nettle was a crafter, making all sorts of things. (Neither of them quite remember exactly what type of dragons they were before, but Nyxlight speculates they were both Mirrors).
The two of them lived near RotRockRim. Nettle was always on the lookout to harvest from the endlessly mutating plantlife, crafting and shaping the new materials. Mari's interest was only spurred when Nettle found some combination or construction that was applicable to a musical instrument. One day, Nettle came back from another little expedition to find more resources with a wonderful haul of wood from a far away forest. The trouble was - the wood, and now Nettle, were infected with something that the two never seen before - a fungus of some sort.
It didn't heal, it got worse. Nothing killed it, not medicines, not the attempts of healers, nothing; and they did not get better, only worse. Hearing of a clan that had dealt with a similar sounding incident, they eagerly investigated. Only to find tragedy. The adults caught it, and, while some progressed quicker than others, not a single one reported recovery. And, most troublingly, once it had spread to the nesting grounds- they all died. All the hatchlings, all the eggs - dead within hours.
At this point, Mari was almost paralyzed, and Nettle was not far better. To allow this curse to spread further was anathema; they shuddered at the horror of the lost hatchlings. Perhaps, they reasoned, if they jumped into the Wyrmwound, this particular plague would go with them, and be reabsorbed or perhaps diluted.
The Wyrmwound did seem to destroy the fungus, but in doing so it merged the two together. They shared one body now; both were very much conscious, not in pain, able to fly, and run, and see. They met other dragons like them, some with similar stories and some born that way, and they began to settle into their new life.
Unfortunately, this wonderful outcome did not last for long, as soon enough Mari began to fade. At first it was just moments of distraction; then it became clear that her thoughts were becoming echos of Nettle's. She was slowly being absorbed by Nettle - who was horrified but could find no solution. This drove Nettle nearly mad, as he desperately searched for a way to stop, or even slow the process. Nothing worked.
Thus Mari was driven to, debatably, the very last decision made of her own free will; She took one of Nettle's failed attempts at creating a animatron for them, in secret, and and stored herself in it, in the form of a song. Nettle would never have agreed- as he was trying to transfer himself out of the body- but Mari persisted. This attempt... Didn't quite work either.

Part Two: The aftermath
QZE1Lxp.png Mari's essence survived, and was translated into the animate musical instrument. Nettle, recognizing this and hoping to save her spirit, bonded with her as a familiar. It seemed that she had stabilized - sort of - but it was not a good solution. He was distraught and sought everywhere for a better answer.

Including Baldwin, the iconoclast alchemist.
Nettle's desperate appeal to the the distracted head alchemist was overheard by three of the old Bogsneak's apprentices: PhiloVossi, an Aberration who thought the idea of a 'created' Abberation rather than one birthed from the Ark of Aberration was a very thought provoking idea. His clan-sib and fellow apprentice Fae MoonShadow was very interested as was MoonShadow's his new bride NyxLight. Being a descendant of the Alchemist Tool's lineage the very origins of that line born in the confluence of souls and health and alchemy she was sure that something helpful should be possible.

The three of them; PhiloVossi, MoonShadow and NyxLight came up with a possible solution, and part of it was dependent on applying to the Ark of Abberation
