Milan grows up among witches, and from a young age, they're fascinated by the craft. Unfortunately, their meager magic reserves aren't enough to execute most spells. Disappointed but not about to give up, Milan does their best to help the coven with materials, learning as much as they can about the magical properties of plants, animals, and crystals. They tinker where they can, and grow over time into a shocking aptitude for potion-making. Not about to stop at that, Milan begins to travel, gathering and selling herbs as a way to pay their expenses as they search for ways to further augment their abilities.

They meet Cashew's caravan in their travels by chance. Having access to a newt that Cashew needs for a client in abundance, Milan quickly realizes how lucrative it would be to have Cashew's connections. But what really seals the deal is Cashew's mention of a witch at one of his more frequent stops who is said to partake in experiments that alter the very core being of a dragon, or even create new dragons from scratch. Hopeful that Magisa will have the answers they seek, Milan agrees to join Cashew's company.

The one drawback is a snooty companion by the name of Cyzarine. As Milan butts heads with the other dragon again and again, they grow to realize that Cyzarine has everything they lack: magical talent, a sense of grace, the admiration of dragons around her. Along with this realization, Milan finds themself in love for the first time. Nervous and excited about the prospect, they pivot from arguing with Cyzarine to courting her. She's caught off guard, and takes a while to come around to the idea. Once they become mates, they're unstoppable. However, that's not to say the bickering stops.
