Biography

IN THE GLARE OF MY STEEL I SEE THE FACE OF A GOD
LIGHT-1.png
S K O R I A N

LIKE ALL YOUNG GUARDIANS, Skorian was taught the nature of The Search, the inescapable drive Guardian's feel to bond one's soul to an object or person of worth. Each day he trained and studied and battled and read, and at night he listened, starry-eyed, to the tales of his clan elders' and their Charges. He saved up for the most brilliant armor and the finest sword. When he finally came of age the young dragon set out on his own noble quest, in search of the Charge he would heroically protect for all his days.

And so, Skorian traveled across Sorineth. He killed everyone that stood in his way. [No one told him to do this.] He hunted and raided and challenged others to lethal duals, seeking to prove his worth. [Again- no one told him to do this.] People learned quickly to avoid the massive guardian, lest he mistake their behavior as an obstacle between himself and his Charge- never mind the fact that it was in no way implied he had to battle to find it. Like, his mom found her charge at the farmer's market.

It's not known how many saw Guardian's blood-splattered face staring stoically down at them, how many suffered the sting of his blade, or the iron grip of his claws. And no one was really sure where he got the "finding one's Charge through holy bloodshed" idea. Much discussion was had over who or what would end up consuming the Guardian's every thought. Whatever his charge was- be it object or dragon- they would either become the safest thing in all of Sorineth, or the most unlucky.

Unfortunately, Torchy was destined to be both.

SKORIAN IS egotistical, overconfident, shameless, rude, smug, and easily provoked. He's massive and rises early each morning to train and exercise for several hours. He waxes poetic on the noble bond between a Guardian and their Charge while also behaving like a complete psychopath. He's excessively violent and justifies this as serving a higher cause; ultimately claiming that it is his expectation, as a Guardian, to take any measure to protect his Charge. This is in spite of the fact that his Charge- Torchy the Tundra- hates everything about him.

Torchy and Skorian are nearly always at odds, bickering like schoolboys over the most trivial things, constantly trying to one-up each other in shows of macho dominance. Their arguments are the stuff of legend. It would've come to blows if Skorian weren't biologically wired to protect the tundra's physical health at any cost; instead they just snarl and posture at each other, often going to childish lengths to provoke the other.

In spite of this, Skorian is extremely open about the fact that Torchy is his Charge, and that he's therefore dedicated body and soul to the Tundra's well-being. Skorian must be within shouting distance of the Tundra at all times, or else he begins suffering from withdrawal and having panic attacks. He has in the past punched through walls to get to Torchy. [Many of these separation events were from Torchy trying to cut him off for good.] Even the most minor slight against Torchy can send Skorian into a frothing rage.

Funnily enough, it's after they've been separated for a while that they get along the best; Skorian is as sweet and affectionate as a kitten in the moments when they're reunited, much to Torchy's chagrin.
