As a young man, Vitus thought he was better than the family he left behind. A curious and open-minded individual, Vitus detested the cruel, self-serving disposition of his parents and siblings. At the earliest opportunity, he left. For years he traveled with different names, taking different jobs, forming brief friendships.

After a while he met Rive, a skydancer who taught him the value of found family. He buried the dragon known as Riseki, and reinvented him as Vitus, humble blacksmith and cauldron-maker.

And for a while, things were good.
