Zev was fascinated with the sea from birth, and when undersea discoveries introduced him to Undertide dragons, his choice was clear. That was also what galvanized him to join the Summer Court. He's always felt he lived in the shadow of his father's boastfulness and his mother's energy, but this makes him unique, his own dragon, sculpted into exactly what he wants to look like; and if he needs to get away from his parents he can always dive down into the furthest depths of the sea to escape them, when he's on the right side of the veil. In the Summer Court, of course, that's harder - the sea in the fae realms worries him, and he'd rather not test it - but he keeps his appearances at the court brief and controlled, so he can show himself off to best advantage and not let himself get roped into his father's schemes and stories or any other court intrigue. Besides, he's most comfortable in the depths, at home with Autonoe. She comes with him to visit his land-dwelling family, and she's even expressed curiosity about the summer court, but they're in agreement as to where home should be.
