For Sorrow, the past year has been hell. It began when his father disappeared suddenly, forcing him onto the throne. That in an of itself wasn't terrible, he'd been learning how to rule since he was little. What made it worse was when, again and again, search parties, investigators, bounty hunters, knights, mercenaries, anyone he could hire, returned empty handed with no clues or ideas as to where his father could have gone. To the point where everyone, from those he paid to the castle staff had begun to tell him he'd likely been assassinated.
And all the while, tensions had been rising between the city and Beastclan aligned citizens that sympathized with the local non-dragons outside Tethri's territory. Due to his search, he'd admittedly been ignoring the misinformation spreading about the treatment of the Beastclans, and it lead to a series of violent uprisings, but nothing the guards couldn't handle...Until it was.
Between the fires, the defenses that had been blown down, and the interlopers from the Beastclans, the city fell after only a day of battle. Torn apart from the inside and scattered like the splinters of a tree struck by lightning. In the chaos, Gwenno had disappeared, and it was like Sorrow's worst nightmare come true. With a majority of the citizens slain, his personal guards deserting, shell-shocked, and unable to find his brother, Sorrow hid in the waterways of the city until it all subsided. Waiting for...nothing, he supposed. When he'd stumbled his way through his destroyed home to huddle in the castle's throne room, he'd found a king from a distant land that had come to investigate rumors of an uprising, but had arrived too late. The Lord's name, Viatix, was one Sorrow remembered his father speaking of fondly when he was still little, so when the Lord of Towers offered him refuge and with nothing left to lose, Sorrow accepted and traveled to Luncarta, where he now resides. Temporarily, of course.
Determined as he is to find his lost half-brother, between the weight of repeated failures in finding him, the apparent death of their father, the collapse of their entire kingdom, and how out of place he feels in the court of Luncarta...Sorrow often leans heavily on Viatix to shield him from the prying eyes of the nobles and the Crescent Guard. Sometimes he feels like he needs to hide, like he can't stand the stares he gets, whether of pity or sympathy. Some days, staying inside his borrowed room in the castle is all he can do to keep from simply giving up.
There is no doubt in Sorrow's mind that he is weak. He was an heir once, he's part of a royal bloodline and yet here he is, cowering behind a foreign king who took pity on him. He can only exude the aura of a royal maybe 70% of the time when it should always be so, and isn't that pathetic? He's in over his head searching for his half brother, and he's ashamed of how often Viatix needs to pull him up for air by his scruff like some easily frazzled hatchling.
Sorrow was so much more confident with his innocent little half brother by his side, a smirk on his face, posture tight and proud, his eyes sharp, but mirthful. It was easy to look put together and mature next to his puppy of a sibling...Gwenno being all bright eyes and a heart full of love for everyone.
