Biography

Phoenix from the Ashes!

(Beef) Wellington, son of Carl and Wendy.

Wellington was born a sleek Coatl. When he grew into a young adult, he decided he felt more comfortable as a fluffy Tundra, but his father Carl was firmly against it. Since Tundra scrolls were fairly cheap and in good supply, Wellington was able to go behind his back and make the change anyway. This caused a serious rift to form between father and son once the act was made apparent, and due to the exorbitant cost of Coatl scrolls, Carl could not easily rectify the situation. This resulted in Carl disowning Wellington and kicking him out of their family restaurant.

Carl’s wife Wendy and daughter Mignon fought back against this choice, but to allow tensions to properly dissipate, Wendy made the decision to send her son to live with his uncle Sirloin for the time being. While Wendy’s relationship with Sirloin was strained, she knew he wouldn’t turn away his only nephew. Rightfully so, Sirloin jumped at the chance to offer Wellington an apprenticeship almost immediately.

Wellington remained in contact with his sister Mignon through handwritten letters, and eventually confessed he wanted to do more than just change his species. He wanted to cast off any resemblance to their father and be rid of his original coloration entirely.

In tandem, Sirloin sent his own letter to Wendy to request her permission to buy his nephew a scatterscroll. While the artifact was worth a pretty penny, Sirloin was a well-off Coatl who knew what it was like to be discontent in one’s body, having grown up himself as a pygmy dragon. He had been absolutely delighted to spoil Wellington and help him further his transformation, seeing his arrival as an opportunity to make amends toward the soured relationship between Sirloin and his own sister Wendy.

Mother and daughter were quietly discussing their respective messages over breakfast when Carl walked in and overheard the exchange.

Needless to say, Carl lost it. It was one outburst after another, over the ridiculous idea of scattering, over the secret correspondences, and Carl was convinced everyone was against him. He was losing control over his life, he bemoaned.

But he was only losing control over his son’s life, Wendy corrected, stating that Wellington was old enough to make these decisions for himself, and that he was no longer living under their roof after being disowned.

Carl was seething. Mignon had no input to give, preferring to leave to the table and the conversation all together. Instead she went straight to her Auntie Chorizo (Carl’s older sister) and asked plainly for the gems to buy her own scatterscroll. Chorizo wanted to get back at Carl for the unfair treatment of her nephew, while Mignon wanted to show solidarity for her brother. Mignon hid the scroll for a rainy day, and began cooking up a plot for the future.

Wendy continued her correspondence with Sirloin and granted permission to make the purchase for her son.

For Wellington’s birthday Sirloin gifted him a single scroll. The Tundra was overjoyed, but hesitant to use it. Instead he chose to read the birthday card he received from Mignon. In it his sister stated that she too would be scattering herself in support of him over their father.

Since they are from the same clutch, both of them were scattering on their shared birthday. Mignon’s card even suggested that they swap photos in the mail afterwards to surprise each other.

Touched by his sister’s dedication to scatter herself alongside him, Wellington eagerly went through with it.

The scatter was a success, with a dashing blue and orange Tundra taking the place of a yellow and brown one.

Wellington was comforted by how much relief the new colors gave him, and with it came a budding new identity ready to be shaped by his own claws. Sirloin was immensely proud.

Soon enough, Wellington was excitedly flipping through catalogs, looking for new genes and clothing to better suit his altered palette! Until Sirloin received a call and excused himself from the happy birthday scene.

It was Wendy. While Sirloin did not hesitate to inform her of the good news, Wendy had bittersweet news in return.

Mignon’s scatter did not go well. At all.

It was disastrous. Her daughter was devastated.

Once the spitting image of her mother, Mignon was now…

Green.
