Soot was blessed (or cursed, in Ice's eyes) by the Flamecaller so that although he had an elemental alignment to Ice, he had a lack of connection to his Flight. With coal-colored scales, a dislike of the cold, and elementally neutral fighting skills, he often feels like a disliked outcast. His Charge was manipulated by the Flamecaller to be an old Ice relic hidden deep within Fire's treasure hoards. It would seem that the Fire deity was trying to return a stolen, Ice-infused artifact to its proper Flight, but this didn't make the journey to find it any easier for Soot and Frostbite.

Soot picked up the fedora, looking over its design and price tag. He found that it was most certainly cheaper than sunglasses; this was something he could afford that would successfully cover his eyes. He handed the shop owner the required amount of gems and nodded to her, setting the hat on his head and pulling it low so it shielded his eyes. He set course for home, walking away from the auction site. Finally, he would be able to walk around Ice territories without getting weird looks. Or at least… as weird. It was oftentimes more despised for an Ice dragon to wear a Fire charm than there be a full-on Fire dragon inhabiting Ice territories. When they saw the charm then noticed his eye color, it seemed like they instantly decided he was a traitor. It wasn't his fault he'd been branded by the Flamecaller! It was better off they thought he was a full Fire dragon (therefore labelling him as 'potential enemy') than think he was some traitorous Ice member. Leaping from one giant Ice floe to another, he headed back towards his clan's territory.
