To his parent's surprise, Panellus hatched looking just as his mother had done when she had strayed away as a young Gaoler and returned a finned Obelisk. Some magic from that elusive lake must have still been carried in Seraphina even after her fins had gone and her mane had grown, imbuing itself into Panellus' egg. When he was dry of egg-goop and opened his eyes, pale wisps of light winked into existence around him, and continued to surround him even as his body grew and changed into adulthood. He has been known to sing a warbling song, usually in the dawn hours, without realising he is doing so. It's in a language no one understands, not even Panellus himself.
