A stash of pristine, white lab coats in a garden shed. Test tube racks and the cabinets of obscure chemicals. A little shelf of endangered plants. Echeveria stepped inside, one of her wings disfigured. She froze in front of her lab, eyes darkening, before smashing the nearest conical flask to the ground, seething. The green Obelisk stared with slitted eyes at the broken glass. Distaste and fury swirled in her belly.

She hated losing. She loved laughing in front of the face of her defeated opponent - power. No, it was different to being power-hungry. This was different. Not a lust for power, but just a way to feel strong. Accepted. Well, in a sense, she didn’t lack acceptance either. With her battle wits, she was respected amongst the whole clan. Echeveria was fearless.

Dusk was approaching then. She was on her last round, before switching shifts with the next patrol. Nothing threatening usually came out then, and coupled with the fact that she knew every spot of her grounds, Echeveria walked back with her eyes half-closed, feeling the damp earth curl satisfyingly under her paws.

Until she felt sharp pain blaze through her wings.

Echeveria’s eyes snapped open, all senses on high alert. Behind.

The warrior whirled around at breakneck speed, claws finding skin. She dug deep as a howl erupted behind her. She pushed the injured dragon off her with a growl, finding the strength in her legs to finally kick him off, adding a heavy whack to his jaw. It was enough to knock him to the ground, dazed.

Free, she leapt into the air, wounded wings catching the dense evening air, but then the ground rushed up to her. She broke her fall with a roll, now full of frustration. She was never so beaten up before by an intruder. In battles, yes, but whilst patrolling? Echeveria chuckled darkly. He had to know her well. Those who did knew her attacks came from the air, and a bleeding belly barely slowed her down. A broken wing would. But she’d never seen him before.

“Who are you?” She clutched her wing, bruised and broken. The dragon was writhing in pain a few paces from her, but an obvious smirk began to spread over his face. She had to notify the next patrol of him.

But before she could ask again, a hawk soared from the trees, toward her. Judging from the dragon’s grin, it was his pet.

If there was anything she was afraid of, it was a bird.

Echeveria screamed, adrenaline now pumping in, masking the humiliation of a retreat. She darted into the trees, back to her camp, yelling to the next patrol of the intruder. They would settle it.

The pieces of glass stared at her mockingly, but she found solace in her lab. Echeveria would water her plants. Perhaps make a new potion that made one invisible. All until she felt better.

67949303p.png My family is very precious to me. Please take good care of my great3 granddaughter, and if she ever needs to leave your clan, please send her back to her family. If she has any children of her own, I would love to see them, and they will always be welcome in my clan.
