********** Divine beasts inhabited the gray area between the world of Sornieth and the Otherworlds. The Obelisk was a light shade of pink, her limbs fading into black with pink claws protruding at the tips. Golden jewelry caressed her figure, glistening brightly under the brilliant sunshine. Thick black feathers extended from out around her glowing pink eyes, curving around the base of shining gold, twisted horns. The beast took great pride in her appearance, ensuring she took time out of everyday to brush through her pastel coat. Caelum did not care about anyone or anything more than herself. In the Obelisk’s eyes, the world served her. Caelum sat atop a cliff in her realm, peering into a misty haze. Figures danced and swirled through the smoke, ignorant to the fact that they were being watched by a seraph through the veil. The dragon glanced around her surroundings, making sure that she was not being watched by another angel. She rose to her feet, satisfied that she was alone. Caelum stretched for a moment before stepping closer to the haze, quiet laughter emanating from the shroud. The seraph stepped into the fog, her body beginning to dissipate from the Otherworld. Within moments, she had walked through the veil that separated the world of Sornieth from her own. A small group of young dragons chasing one another in a forest clearing came to a sudden halt, their eyes locked on the figure of Caelum. None of them dared to speak, their bodies frozen to the earth in awe. Caelum spoke, her inflection deceivingly radiant and serene. It was as if the world went silent for a brief moment, simply in admiration for the beast. “Hello, little ones. I have been sent to your world to grant your wildest wishes and desires. Anything you yearn for can be yours today, but it will come at a steep price.” The young dragons glanced around at one another, curiosity beginning to build up within them. Their eyes were wide with interest, their thoughts racing. Caelum pointed a pink talon at the closest dragon, continuing. “You. What do you desire from this life?” The small creature swallowed hard, nervous to be in the glistening presence of Caelum. She took a step away from the group towards the beast, opening her mouth to speak. Her timid words were quiet and bashful, unsure of how to address the celestial creature in front of her. “...T-Treasure. I don’t w-want to be, uh, poor anymore.” The seraph lifted a paw, snapping her dark fingers once. A mass hoard of treasure suddenly appeared from thin air, falling directly on top of the young dragon. Coins rattled and clinked as they fell, gleaming bars of gold striking the dragon. The group of dragons took a step back, glancing away from Caelum to watch the scene unfold. The seraph watched as the young creature was pummeled by an ever-flowing waterfall of treasure, her shrieks being drowned out by the clattering of riches. Caelum remained expressionless, an enormous pile of treasure now fully covering the dragon. Minutes passed by and the waterfall of riches finally came to an end; the young dragon’s struggles could no longer be heard, the mass of golden valuables no longer flowing as the dragon’s desperate skirmishes fizzled out. The remaining dragons in the group stared at the overflowing pile of treasure, fearfully waiting to see if the young dragon would emerge. They stole glances at Caelum, who had a small devilish smile spreading across her features. She made eye contact with one, her glowing eyes piercing into his gaze. “You next. What is your wish?” The young creature hesitated, opening his mouth but closing it before any words came out. Before Caelum could continue, a dark cloud of hazy smoke began to swell nearby. The beast swallowed nervously, trying not to let the group notice her unease. |

“How long? How long have you been torturing the dragons of Sornieth?” The creature raised an arm angrily, pointing at the hazy fog with a sharp talon. Within the haze, Caelum could see the group of young dragons pulling out the drowned creature. She coughed and sputtered, small coins falling from her maw. Caelum remained silent, physically flinching from the beast’s words. He continued, his tone dripping with rage. “Did you think you would get away with this forever? Did you think we wouldn’t investigate you after the rumors spread?” Caelum swallowed hard, unable to pull her gaze away from the beast in front of her. He spat out his words, unable to control his outrage. “You have broken the trust of the Elders past the point of repair. From this point on, you will always be watched. You can no longer be trusted to fulfill your duties, nor will you ever be.” The beast exhaled, large clouds of blue smoke beginning to wrap around Caelum. Numerous pairs of eyes emerged from the haze, blinking furiously as they came to life. Caelum wailed in pain as her wings tore open, falling to the ground as her flesh ripped to accommodate the eyes that began to push through. Her howls of agony echoed throughout the land, writhing in pain as droplets of blood dripped from the corners of the eyes. The male spoke once more, content with the reaction of Caelum. His voice was dripping with satisfaction as he watched the creature claw at the protruding sets of eyes. “This is your everlasting punishment. Your every movement will be watched and permission must be granted before leaving the Otherworlds. The eyes see all, young Caelum.” Caelum continued writhing in her suffering, the eyes blinking wildly as flecks of dirt entered them. She quickly realized that harming the sets of eyes only caused her more agony. The beast slowly rose to her feet, droplets of dirty blood continuing to drip from the corners of the new organs. Caelum spat at the opposing beast, regaining her composure before allowing a sly smile to spread across her features. She replied, her inflection confident and daring. “Do you really think this will hold me back?” |
