As soon as Gamora hatches, her mother begins training her for combat. There is a conflict on the horizon, and while Daybreak has no intention of letting her hatchlings fend for themselves, she drills fighting skills into them nonetheless. In the evenings, Elster watches over them, gently explaining how he spent the day gardening, or telling stories about the way the clan used to be. To Gamora, these evening chats are everything. She doesn't struggle with the mechanics of combat, but the rationale eludes her. It isn't until she asks Daybreak about it outright that she gets an answer: to Daybreak, Elster's quiet ways are worth fighting to protect. In an uncharacteristically quiet moment, Daybreak encourages Gamora to go out into the world and find what she needs to protect. Curious, Gamora sets out as instructed, but not without a look over her shoulder.

Gamora had no plans on leaving with her brother, Piper. But here they were, travelling together until they come across this small and unassuming cavern. The two had made their way here as a temporary stop, but as the caverns piqued Piper's interest, Gamora finds herself unable to leave him behind. This was the moment she realized: Perhaps what she sought to protect was closer than she thought...
