The Wanderer goes by many names. Hare, Runner, Lost One, Mars, Light, Gold... The list goes on. His parents, both members of the alliance against Luminax, gave him a name on his hatchday but he rejected it, like he rejected everything. Day and night, he roams Sornieth searching for something he is not sure exists. His wings have carried him to the Behemoth and the Pillar of the World. Once, he even made found himself roaming through Snowsquall Tundra and perhaps one day, he will leave Sornieth as a whole. And yet, he yearns for a place to belong. Sometimes, late at night, when he stares into the night sky, he misses the days when he slept next to his brother Mercury and his two sisters in the rugged comfort of Emperor's End. That life had been a good one. So why did he leave? Because it was also a life full of hurt and pain. When his youngest sister, Venus, had died, they had hidden her body deep inside the caverns beneath the village. Dead Imperials always bear the risk of turning into monsters. The inhabitants of Emperor's End knew that better than no one else. And so they locked her in a grave where no living soul would ever see her again. There had been no time to pay her the last respects. When Mercury had argued that Emperors could only rise from Imperials of different alignments and she was the only dead Imperial around, they had shunned him. "We cannot be sure of that," the historians had said. After that day, the Wanderer decided to leave Emperor's End once he was old enough. He could not bear to be so near and yet so far from his baby sister. He will often not be seen by other dragons for day or weeks on end. On rare occasions he will remain hidden for months, although he rarely actually leaves the Sunbeam Ruins. When he does meet other dragons though, he will join them for a rest and offer them a drink from his tankard. If they are looking for shelter, he guides them to Emperor's End. Once his company can spot Varda's tower, he will leave them and once again roam through Sornieth unseen. For he is the Wanderer and he has no home. |
