Biography

lightningtop.png
Uh-oh, looks like this hard worker wandered a little too far from her home lair, Stormytehcat11, and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to her home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here (Or the rest hub located within the thread). This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

Owner's Note: Feel free to add or change as much as you want with her, spiff up the bio, or add more to her personality (though please do not change any of the original concepts without my permission). This is intended as a guide to your creative abilities! I want to see what kind of dragon this youngling will grow to become through her adventures.

About:
Sparrow will work herself breathless and exhausted if you let her. She becomes so focused on working and doing a good, thorough job of it that she just doesn't know when to stop. She restlessly feels that her work is never done, and it's this workaholic mindset that eventually persuaded her to travel the world in search of endless toil. She delights in being of use to anyone, never refusing a favor and never stopping moving. She is an efficient multitasker who finds great joy in both an empty and completed checklist.

Until recently, she's been completely content and cheerful with these facts about herself. But lately, Sparrow has been a lot more conflicted about her relationship to work and work ethic as a whole. She's still just as driven, but has only recently come to realize that working herself to death at every opportunity might be just a touch unhealthy. Sparrow tries to shove down the dissenting thoughts, but the concept of trying to find out who she is unrelated to the work she produces is an extremely uncomfortable new idea she just can't shake. Will she bury the new thoughts under yet more work, or turn that drive toward working on herself? Only time will tell.

Diary

January 14th, 2022 - ChildofProphecy - Hikari no Yogen

The first day of Sparrow's appearance was very welcoming. She was worried about being out in the unfamiliar world, but the clan showed its kindness. Raitogadian first approached Sparrow with a warm smile,
66769826p.png "Welcome! You are welcome to stay as long as you want. This clan respects your decisions even when they haven't been made yet. We spread peace, you are here and will enjoy the peace we will show."
Sparrow attempted to find work in the Clan of Prophetic Light, but it was unlike any clan she ever heard of. Everything was of utter peace and balance; there was perfect harmony. She should have listened to her clanmates when they told her it was a sacred and blessed place. It was as if stepping into Heaven.
Though there were things to do, the strange and powerful peace that Hikari no Yogen was so known for unnerved Sparrow. This was no normal clan. Eventually she grew anxious and decided to leave and continue her travels elsewhere. The clan was very kind to her and wished her the best as she left. They were very gracious, indeed, and it's not that Sparrow disliked of feared them. It was just that she needed activity in her life, and after this deficit, she would need an especially large dose of it.

April 26th, 2022 - Stormytehcat11 - Clan Duneberry

Sparrow, exhausted by the strangeness of her clan's closest sister clan, returned home for a rest; which to her, meant taking a lot of jobs. There was often work to be found in Clan Duneberry, and she was grateful for the additional hustle and bustle created by the Wavecrest Saturnalia. She quickly jumped into the fray and helped. Her clanmates were surprised to see her back home so soon after she'd left and were eager to hear from her, which eventually led to her being pulled away from her work. Sparrow explained with exasperation her weird experience with the prophetic clan, attracting the attention of at least a few gossipmongers in the area. Before she could go into too much detail, though, the small crowd was broken up by Isaiah and Kayne who had come to greet their daughter. She received a very warm welcome that was maybe just a bit embarrassing for her age. With a huff, Sparrow followed Isaiah when he told her there was someone he wanted her to meet.
Sparrow was introduced to her nephew, Price. She was happy to hear of a new addition at last to the family, and Price was decidedly beautiful; but one glaring fact stood out: he had two heads. Not even in her father's crazy machines had Sparrow ever seen such an appalling thing, and the fact that it occurred normally in a dragon was inconceivable to her. "This world just keeps getting weirder!", she thought to herself, about ready to head to hibernation at this point. Still, she sent Price her regards before going to bed for the night. She really was exhausted.

The next morning, Sparrow seriously questioned whether she should go into hibernation or not. Things were just a bit crazy for her as of late, and a few months break would probably do her good. But, after further consideration, Sparrow saw all the work there still was to do, and she remembered all her brothers and sisters still out there exploring the world while she was here at home.
She decided to continue her adventures immediately, and with a newfound determination, bid her beloved clan farewell for now, setting off into the new day.

May 8th, 2022 - UmbraCrow - The Moonbleeder Clan

Sparrow couldn't think of anywhere further to go than the southern icefields, and while flying around the expansive reclaimer's glacier, an oddity stuck out to her. On the flat horizon of ice, a massive conifer tree towered out of the ground, cracking away a deep ravine in the otherwise pristine glacier. She dove down and hovered above the crevasse, finding dragons of various sizes and colors milling about down below. With a second dive she crossed the threshold and began gliding through the ravine. A door close to the top of the glacial wall caught Sparrow's eye, and she landed herself on the carved footpath leading up to the doorstep. A sign out front read "The Wayward Inn", it sounded like an interesting place to stay so Sparrow opened the door and slinked inside.

She was swaddled in an oppressing heat, but after a few moments her body adjusted to the temperature. Looking around the room she spotted a slumbering imperial sprawled out over a plush couch in front of the fireplace. Sparrow kept her distance for a moment, but seeing that the imp wasn't waking up she announced her entrance with a calm, "Hello? Are you the Innkeeper?"

The Imperial lifted her head up with a jolt before she was overcome by a massive yawn. She swayed her head around before spotting Sparrow, and with a small 'oh', she lifted herself off the couch and approached. "I'm sorry darling, I haven't been getting much sleep, so many late night travelers stumbling upon this clan lately. Would you like a room?"

"I would love one, thank you," Sparrow replied, watching as the imp smiled and wandered behind the desk to the right. She opened a large tome on the desk and began scribbling.

"Name?"

"Sparrow."

With a nod the imp jotted it down before handing Sparrow her room key, then she returned to her spot on the couch. Sparrow hung around for a bit longer, joining the imp by the fireplace and having a nice chat about the local dragons and what the work was like. Sparrow was delighted to know that the locals were looking for more dragons on hand to help out.

In the morning Sparrow got right to work helping out the locals. She got to work on some very interesting construction projects around the glacial clan, though she soon realized that the way dragons do labor down here was far different from how dragons labor in the lightning territories. Dragons would work in shifts and would have frequent breaks to warm up indoors or to have a warm meal. Sparrow would work through all the breaks, only stopping if she couldn't feel her hands anymore. The locals seemed to get worries about here until finally during a work shift Sparrow was pulled to the side by a large ridgeback who took her into one of the many heated breakrooms.

He introduced himself as Terawatt and dunked a bamboo cup into a large pot of stew, handing it off to Sparrow. While Sparrow warmed up, Terawatt went on to explain his own culture shock when moving down to the Moonbleeder clan. He used to work himself to the bone like she does, but he had to cut back because the weather in the icefields was relentless. Once Sparrow was done with her meal Terawatta dunked his own cup into the stew and ate the snack sized portion in one gulp before taking Sparrow back to the Wayward Inn. He instructed Sparrow to take the day off for once and recommended the nightshift for her stay, and with that he was off, leaving Sparrow in the inn with a bamboo tea cup.

Sparrow slinked off to her room and mulled over what the ridgeback had to say, only to find herself waking up hours later in a daze, like she woke up from a seven year long nap. She rolled over and returned to sleep until she heard a knock at her door, and low and behold it was Terawatt again. He grinned at her before motioning for her to follow. She was on the night shift with him, working on a telescope that sat under the boughs of a massive conifer tree that made the clan stand out against the glacier. Sparrow stayed for a few more nights but couldn't really get the hang of taking so many breaks, it felt wrong to do so, and after some contemplating she decided to go travel the world once again.

On the night she left Terawatt gave her one last gift of farewell, a tan bandana.

7/30/22 - AlumTheDragon - The Warren

While Sparrow did successfully find work in the underground Clan, keeping it was apparently going to be harder than she expected. It wasn't like she wasn't willing to do anything they asked of, of course, she was willing to do all of it. Gather food? Simple enough! Open up the armory's tunnel? Easy as pie! Divert the attention of Luminax for hours on end? Of course she could do it, everyone knows that Sparrow is the best flier around! Even better was that here she was constantly busy. She felt like she has a purpose here, and shouldn't that be enough of a reason for her to stay?

But no. According to Fire Devil, Sparrow had "better" things to do than live in The Warren, and that she should leave while she still had the chance. This didn't make much sense to Sparrow, as she did feel happy here! This was where she wanted to be! Fire Devil couldn't (wouldn't?) accept this, and didn't give up until Sparrow finally decided to leave with a heavy heart.

The night after Sparrow left, however, she encountered a strange golden compass. After realizing where it was pointing to, Sparrow could tell that this was a gift from the Lightweaver herself! Even if Fire Devil wanted her to have a life elsewhere, the Skydancer knew that she could always come back to this new home if the moment ever arose.

8/1/22 - Cryogonal - Sevaria Suburbs

Sparrow soon found herself in a kingdom whose weather was dangerous around it. It was risky getting into the kingdom but she headed to a nearby tavern and took a quiet break after the stressful trip.

A small fae had been running the tavern and soon took a small break to chat with Sparrow, She soon learned that this fae was called Forge and they had recently opened the tavern after traveling to the kingdom themselves.

Sparrow felt welcomed by Forge and stayed in the tavern for a few nights before soon heading back out into the stormy weather to head to her next adventure, just before leaving out of sight, Forge gave her a gift for the road!

8/8/22 - Axqu - Clan AXQU

Sparrow had flown dangerous weather before. She'd flown dangerous weather at altitude. What she had not done before was attempt to fly through a cloud so close to the Cloudscape Crags. The cyclone tumbled her end over end, everything she owned lost to the far reaches of nowhere, before she smashed headlong into the side of a mountain that came out of nowhere. Clan AXQU's doctor called it CFIT - Controlled Flight Into Terrain. Apparently it happened all the time around here to the point that the Clan had installed radar on their mountain to pick up survivors.

Like so many others that Clan AXQU scraped up off the mountain with CFIT injuries, Sparrow was required to rest. But resting, the real rest that the body needed to heal, was absolutely anathema to everything Sparrow held dear. She tried everything she could to convince Dr. Millie to let her work, please, she'd do anything, she'd worked through a concussion before. But this had the opposite effect to what Sparrow intended. Millie was horrified at the poor care Sparrow took of herself, and the pathological drive that'd led her to work through mild frostbite the last time she'd been to the Southern Icefield.

"Besides," said Millie, "this isn't just a concussion. This is a skull fracture that nearly reached all the way to your beak's growth bed. If I have to assign someone to watch you 24/7, I will."

Millie did, in fact, have to. The former matriarch, founder, and Archmage of Clan AXQU had time. Millie suspected she made time. For someone named after a flower, the elder Mirror didn't have much delicacy and grace to her. Sparrow recognized the rough claws of someone who'd worked her hands to the bone her whole life. And those bright cyan eyes didn't lie.

"Girlie, you bought the propaganda hook, line, and sinker. Dragons like you die young," Columbine murmured, with obvious pity in her tone. "You're the easiest kind of dragon to take advantage of. Do you really think the Stormcatcher loves you? Do you really think the Spire will recognize your effort? Or do you know that He'll toss you aside like a broken toy the second you have the audacity to break?"

Maybe it was the concussion, but Sparrow wept. The old mirror held her claw while she did. "Since you can't work your body... how 'bout you work your mind, here, with me? We left the Shifting Expanse because our God is toxic and my son wasn't about to let his people be used to nothing like that. We're a research and development union. And yes, I use that word deliberately."

Sparrow froze. Union. Back in the Shifting Expanse, that had been an evil word, for lazy dragons who just wanted to mooch off the Stormcatcher's good nature. But Columbine laughed at her reaction. "Yeah, that's about the reaction I expected. And that's the power of propaganda."

The skydancer spent her recovery period, and the physical therapy afterward, discussing philosophy and work with the progenitor of Clan AXQU. Columbine made her angry in ways Sparrow never thought possible. Sparrow hated her. And looked up to her. And respected her. And felt contempt for her. It was all a whirlwind jumble that left her too exhausted to lift her head at the end of every day. Sparrow never thought that feeling would ever be so exhausting.

Sparrow felt the seeds of new ideas take root, though, against her will: the concept of being inherently worth more than what one produces, of faith in herself that she's naturally driven without the need to push, of healthy boundaries surrounding work being a sign of strength, and that mindlessly working one's self to the bone was an excuse to be intellectually lazy about examining one's own relationship to the world. Sparrow hated all of it. But she found herself worrying at it constantly in her free time, like a hainu with a particularly stubborn bone.

She hated Clan AXQU, more than she'd ever hated a place before, but felt herself drawn toward staying: unapologetically Lightning with a free-thinking bent she hadn't even conceived of before. The unfinished challenge got under her skin, itching like a bad case of feather mites. Columbine thumped her on the back and laughed. "You're not ready yet, girlie. Think through what we talked about. But if you ever wanna go union, you got a place here."

8/15/22 - AlumTheDragon - The Warren

Not too long after her return to the Warren, Sparrow was greeted with a letter.
Quote:
Hello,
I hope this letter find you well. I'm sorry about our meeting before, when you last visited home. I could tell I made you feel weird. I don't know if I shocked you, disgusted you, or scared you- those are the most common reactions I get. But I'm writing this letter to help you feel more comfortable with me; or "us" if you prefer. I know I may not look like the other dragons in the clan, but I'm sure out there on your many travels you've met others like me. I don't really know what they may be like in their behavior and personality, but I hope seeing them has at least helped you adjust to our appearance. Inside, I'm a lot more like you than you think.

As much as I'd like this letter just to be about us getting to know one another, though... I also need your help. Or at least your advice. I've tried contacting others in the family, but they're either hibernating or I can't get in contact with them. Well, except Isaiah and Kayne, of course. But they seem beyond me. I'd prefer to talk to someone I feel closer to, and someone who's not so much of an adult.
I feel so outcast. I just want to find someone I can trust, who understands me, and doesn't recoil in my presence. I know I could get Isaiah or Kayne for this but... I want it to be you. Or at the very least, not them. They kind of scare me. I'm aware I'm putting this on you suddenly, but you seem like someone who can take on any challenge. Even an emotional one.

You don't have to become my friend. I don't even know if it's normal for someone to be friends with their aunt. But I'm asking at least for your help. You can point me in the right direction, or point me at the right dragon. Maybe you could come home and we can spend some time together, or you could tell me where you are and I could come to you. But I know your good at directions.
I hope that also means these kinds of directions.

Please write back soon.

With love,
Price

It had been a while since she had last seen her nephew. She had assumed he was doing well back home... but if this letter told her anything it was that things weren't actually going as well as she thought. In the moment, however, Sparrow still needed to get back to the Warren, so for the moment she pocketed the letter and continued onward to the underground Clan.

After being escorted by the guard to the tunnels, the first thing she did was find Fire Devil. As much as she would hate it, Sparrow knew that the Snapper would like to know of her return. Still, it didn't make the conversation any easier.

"What are you doing back? I already told you! You need to leave while you still can!"

"I know, I know. But I did leave, and I wanted to come back. Plus, I think I'm going to need your help with something else."

And so, the two sat down and discussed the letter. Sparrow would like to speak more to Price and befriend(?) him, but the question stood on whether or not she should go back home or have Price come to her. After all, there was always the risk of the Lightweaver wanting an oddity like him on what Sparrow now wanted to refer to as "The Glitterguard". But, if most of her family wasn't available to be contacted like Price said, then wouldn't it be her duty to come home?

Later that evening, Sparrow composed her reply.
Quote:
Dear Price,
Please don't apologize for my response. How you look is most certainly not your fault, and even a universe where it had been I still wouldn't be justified for judging you because of it. Your uniqueness might be something I still need to get used to, but I can assure you that is my personal problem to solve, not yours.

Setting that aside for now, I'm planning on coming home to you. It's about time I did so anyhow, and maybe with my help it will be easier to contact our family? Either way it would be lovely to spend time with you, I think. I never was really able to know any of my parents' siblings either, so at least we're in something of the same boat with this being a new kind of relationship.

My plan is to leave shortly after I send you this letter. Hopefully we can talk more once I come home!

Love,
Sparrow

August 29th, 2022 - Stormytehcat11 - Clan Duneberry

When Sparrow arrived home, she found the clan to be tense and silent. It was as if everyone was holding their breath, waiting for something to happen. Hardly anyone even noticed her return. Quickly, she sought out Price and asked him what what going on.
"It's Isaiah," he told her with a shaky voice, "he's taken things too far- been exposed. Everywhere, there's whispers... talk of usurping him."
Sparrow was alarmed, but stayed put.

First of all, conceptually, the collaborative effort into making this beautiful lady and her lore is awesome. What a great idea with such a great payoff, it was super fun to read her bio. Aesthetically, she's b e a u t i f u l! That skin has kind of frightened me, it's so red and bold, but pairing it with oranges rather than explicit reds is such a clever idea! It looks amazing, she's a really lovely dragon
